I often favour eyeshadow palettes with bright, unique shades. That all changed when Anastasia Beverly Hills released the Soft Glam palette. This palette contains a combination of neutral, everyday eyeshadow shades. (Although, I’ll admit, the shade that initially attracted me to the palette is the carbon black shade ‘Noir’.)
I adore the unique colour of this palette. Soft Glam contains 14 eyeshadows, and the same velvety cover as its predecessors. The palette is an eye-catching mustard-yellow. The palette features white lettering.
Each shade is versatile. The shades in this palette are wearable during the day or night. The palette contains a combination of matte, duo-chrome and metallic finishes:
- Tempera – Ultra-matte velvety beige
- Glistening – Shimmering gold with a pink-pearl reflect
- Orange Soda – Matte peach
- Rose Pink – Rose-gold with light pink shimmer
- Sultry – Chocolate brown with a satin-metallic finish
- Bronze – Gold shimmer
- Mulberry – Matte wine
- Dusty Rose – Matte lilac with pink undertones
- Fairy – Shimmering champagne
- Burnt Orange – Matte deep orange
- Sienna – Matte earthy-brown
- Rustic – Matte cinnamon
- Cyprus Umber – Matte dark brown
- Noir – Matte carbon black
I hesitated to try this palette. The last palette released, Subculture, received criticism due to the patchy quality. To my delight, each shadow in the Soft Glam palette was soft, buttery, and blended well. The shimmer shades were bright and pigmented. Each of the matte shades blended easily, though I did experience small patches with the shade Mulberry. There was no fallout or creasing with any of the eyeshadows.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette is a versatile, beautiful palette. The combination of shades pair nicely. I enjoy that I can create softer eyeshadow looks or a bolder, smoky eye. This is a great palette if you prefer softer eyeshadow colours but it also contains a perfect selection of darker shades. If you’ve tried any of Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow singles, you will notice that this palette contains some of those shades.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette retails for $42 at Sephora.
Do you ever feel perpetually tired, no matter how long you slept the night before? Trying to fall asleep at night can feel dreadful. If you find yourself hitting the ‘Snooze’ button after a full night of rest, here are some tips for you! (I like to use these tips myself after Daylight Savings Time to compensate for the lost hour of sleep.)
1. Don’t hit the ‘Snooze’ button
I know, it’s tempting! Each time you hit the snooze button, you never know how your body will react – you may fall asleep, but not always. Instead of reaching for the ‘Snooze’ button when your alarm sounds try getting out of bed immediately and reach for a glass of water to refresh yourself.
2. Let the sunshine in
Inviting sunlight into your window, or getting outside, can help you feel more awake. Bright light helps your brain stay more awake in the morning. A brisk walk in the morning is usually enough to wake you, but if that is not an option, a bright light is a great substitute.
3. Try a cup of coffee
This is my favourite method of waking in the morning. Coffee contains caffeine, which acts to block sleep-inducing chemicals in your brain. A moderate amount of coffee is usually enough to increase your alertness throughout the day. I often start my day with an 8-ounce cup of coffee.
What activities do you engage in to increase your energy in the morning?
My most recent trip to Sephora involved restocking my makeup essentials. While I browsed, I added a few additional items to my cart. In today’s post, I’ll break down the products I restocked and the new additions to my makeup collection.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette
This palette is a perfect combination of subtle earth-toned shades, sparkling rose-gold and matte black eyeshadows. I do not have a set of neutral mattes in my collection. Two initial shades drew me to this palette – a matte carbon-black and a rose gold with an iridescent finish. This palette will be an essential component of my spring makeup! I often do not wear neutral eyeshadow tones, but this will be a perfect place to start.
BareMinerals Matte Liquid Lipcolor Mini
I received a sample of this liquid lipstick from BareMinerals. I always enjoy trying new lipstick formulas to determine how they compare to my favourites. This sample is in the shade Fire. This shade is a beautiful orange-red that is different from shades I typically wear.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
My beloved eyeliner lasted me a long time. I have worn the Tattoo Liner formula for the past two years, and knew I would return to this Kat Von D product once my eyeliner dried out. I restocked the eyeliner in the shade Trooper – a crisp, matte black. I actually did not realize my eyeliner was beginning to dry out until I tried the new pen. In comparison to the tube I’ve always used, the new one delivered a bold, crisp line.
What products have you recently purchased from Sephora?
My skincare routine changes all the time. When I used the last of my go-to face cleanser, I searched for a new product that is gentle but effective. I bought this one-step face cleanser from Philosophy and instantly loved it.
What is it?
A 3-in-1 facial cleanser that cleanses, hydrates and removes makeup.
This cleanser comes in a transparent bottle with a black lid. It is lightweight and simplistic. The transparent bottle displays the cream-colored cleanser inside. The written text on the bottle features the product name (Purity Made Simple) and a brief description of the brand.
I’ll admit – I was skeptical to use this cleanser. I often notice that pure cleansers do not clear my skin well, but this one did not disappoint. The cleanser has a gel consistency that gently lathers when dispensed onto your palm. It gently removes excess oil and makeup without stripping the skin of moisture. After I rinsed the cleanser off my face, my skin immediately felt softer and looked clearer.
The cleanser has a delightful, light citrus scent, thanks to the glycerin and meadowfoam seed oil. It is refreshing and clean.
How to use it
One aspect of this cleanser that I love is how easy it is to use. Simply wet your skin, apply the cleanser using circular motions then rinse. A little product goes a long way when using this cleanser. I typically use a quarter-sized amount each morning.
I’ve used this cleanser daily for the past 2 weeks, and have noticed an improvement in my skin. It prevents breakouts while maintaining my skin’s natural moisture.
Philosophy’s Purity cleanser retails for $32 at Sephora.
I adore dark red lipstick. When I first began wearing lipstick, that was not the case. Deep-toned hues can be intimidating to wear. Today I share tips to pull off a dark-coloured lip.
1. Exfoliate your lips
An important tip for wearing dark lipstick is to start with a smooth base. Exfoliating your lips ensures that the colour won’t settle into any dry patches. I often exfoliate my lips with a lip scrub or clean toothbrush.
2. Apply concealer to the edges of your lips to reduce any mistakes
Dark lipstick can get messy. If your lipstick bleeds, apply concealer to the natural lip line to reduce discolouration.
3. Prime the lips
Applying primer to the lips will ensure that lip colour will show its true shade. Priming the lips with a translucent colour also prevent feathering. If you don’t have a lip primer, a light concealer will work in a pinch!

I’ve become increasingly fond of the rose-toned makeup products in my makeup bag. I usually rotate through different color tones in my makeup palette. Rose tones are the central color this month, and today I share three products I use to achieve it.
1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio
Each Blush Trio offers a combination of pink blushes that are highly pigmented. I own the Pool Party compact. It features pink tones that range from bubblegum pink to coral. This blush is one of my favorite pink-toned products – it adds a beautiful tint to my cheeks without the color appearing too pink. I wear these shades daily, but they compliment any pink-hued eyeshadow.
2. Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette
This eyeshadow features nine pink-toned shades. The shimmery pinks and matte mauve shadows are an ideal base for a rose-colored eye makeup. I often mix the pink pearl shades with my Modern Renaissance palette to create a soft, warm smoky eye. My favorite shades from this compact are coral, mulberry, and a shimmering icy-pink.
3. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb
I rarely wear lip gloss but I picked up this gloss to compliment some of my matte lipstick shades. This gloss from Fenty Beauty is a shimmering rose-nude. It gives my lipstick shades a soft rose undertone. I use this product to add a hint of pink to my lips, and it is ideal to balance a smoky eye.
