September 2019 Makeup and Skincare Empties

Hello, lovelies!

I wrote a makeup and skincare empties post on my blog earlier this summer. I decided to make it a regular series as I discover myself reaching pan on some of my beloved makeup products. For the month of September, I’m sharing three products that are now empties in my collection. If you’d like to see more posts like this on my blog, please let me know in the comments!

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crayon

I received a set of Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crayons for Christmas last year. I loved the colour selection and creaminess of the lip crayons. This lip crayon has a unique formula –  it is a crayon that is designed to have the look, feel, and wearability of a liquid lipstick. The lip crayon dries down to a soft, hydrating finish that is semi-long wearing when it is applied over a lip liner. However, the formula did not last long enough for me to count it as one of my ‘must-have’ liquid lipsicks.

Garnier Sheet Masks

I began introducing sheet masks into my skincare routine over the summer. The sheet mask collection from Garnier’s Skin Active line is a staple in my routine. Each sheet mask is quick and easy to use – in as little as 15 minutes, my skin becomes hydrated, soft, and smooth. Key ingredients in this mask include hyaluronic acid and half a bottle of serum to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin. I have repurchased Garnier’s Sheet Masks since July and it will be a saviour for me as the winter season approaches.

Caudalie Vinosource Serum

Caudalie’s Vinosource Serum is a staple in my skincare routine. I have dry, acne-prone skin and tend to gravitate toward products that have no fragrance, colour, or harsh ingredients. While searching for a serum to incorporate into my skincare routine – hello, dry skin! – a Sephora employee recommended Caudalie’s Vinosource Serum. I am halfway through my third bottle of the product and have not turned back! This lighweight serum hydrates my skin without the use of any colours, fragrances or harsh ingredients. I use it daily and my skin has become more hydrated, soft, and supple.

REVIEW: Huda Beauty Lip Strobe

Hello, lovelies!

I adore Huda Beauty products. I regularly wear liquid lipsticks from the brand, but recently tried the Lip Strobe products. I’m not the biggest fan of lip gloss, but I do occasionally apply it on top of lipstick for a shiny, iridescent lip look. At first swipe, this metallic lip gloss stole my heart.

The Packaging

The packaging of each Lip Strobe is stunningly beautiful. The glosses feature a glossy black cap with a clear tube that displays the colour of each gloss. I adore the doe foot applicator of this gloss – it is slightly curved and tapered to allow for precise application.

The Wear

My favourite aspect of this gloss is that it is hydrating when applied. It does not feel sticky, clumped or drying once I apply it to my lips. It lasts for 1-2 hours on my lips without eating or drinking, but it will fade quicker than a liquid lipstick.

How to apply it

Swipe the gloss onto the lips 1-2 times until the desired level of coverage is achieved. The gloss can be worn alone, on top of lip liner or lipstick. My favourite ways to apply Huda Beauty’s Lip Strobe is to wear it on top of lip liner for a shiny, voluminous look or on top of lipstick for a strobed effect.

The Shades

This collection of glosses features 12 shades:

  • Posh – A semi-sheer white gold
  • Enchanting – A semi-sheer prismatic white with pink reflect
  • Ritzy – A semi-sheer champagne with gold and pink shimmers
  • Snobby – A semi-sheer light pink with gold and pink pearls
  • Angelic – A light peach rose with gold reflect
  • Boujee – A full-coverage coral base with thin gold shimmers
  • Shameless – A chameleon sheer base with gold and pink pearls
  • Saucey – A full-coverage muted red ochre with gold and pink pearls
  • Foxy – A full-coverage copper
  • Mystical – A semi-sheer lilac with blue pearls
  • Fearless – A full-coverage purple with copper-gold reflect
  • Moody – A full-coverage violet with chromatic shimmer

Huda Beauty’s Lip Strobe is a beautiful lip gloss that offers a versatile range of finishes from sheer to full-coverage. I love that each shade can easily coordinate with any eyeshadow look depending on the level of coverage you seek! Each Lip Strobe retails for $24 at Sephora.

3 Creative, Quick Ways to Use Concealer In Your Daily Makeup Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Concealer is one of my holy-grail makeup products. While I use it daily to conceal blemishes, it has become a versatile tool in my makeup kit. A lightweight, buildable concealer formula is ideal for use in unexpected ways:

1. Use it as an eyelid primer

Concealer quickly became my eyelid primer. Priming your eyelids with concealer creates a smooth, even base for eyeshadow. Gently dab concealer on your lid before applying eyeshadow for crease-free, vibrant color. Concealer is also an excellent primer for the lips because it neutralizes your lips’ natural hue.

2. Enhance your contour

Once you’ve contoured your cheekbones, use concealer to “reverse contour” by applying concealer above and below where you’ve applied your bronzer. This trick will sharpen the contrast between your contour and highlight, chiseling your cheekbones.

3. Brighten your eyes

I adore using concealer to brighten my eyes. Dab concealer to the inner corner of your eye and below the browbone for an instant lift. Applying concealer underneath the eyes will brighten and add dimension to your face.

REVIEW: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

Hello, lovelies!

I adore testing mascaras that promise long, fluttery eyelashes. I recently received a sample of Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara from Influenster and instantly fell in love with the product. This is the first mascara that I’ve tried in ages that gave me voluminous, pigmented, and fluttery eyelashes.

The Packaging

The packaging is sleek and sophisticated. The mascara comes in a sleek black tube that features a shiny finish. The tube bears the Marc Jacobs logo and is both lightweight and travel-friendly. I love the unique design of the mascara wand – the bristles are tightly-packed to dispense mascara onto each individual lash. This is the first mascara I’ve used where I’ve effortlessly reached the curved lashes near the corners of my eyes with ease!

The Mascara

I adore the formula of this mascara. It feels thick when applied to the lashes, but it does not become clumped or sticky. The mascara has a rich black pigment and it is not watery. This mascara has a unique formula – it contains the Flash Volume Complex that prevents the mascara from smudging.

The Wear

I’ve worn this mascara throughout the day and it does not flake, clump, or disappear with wear. One small issue I encountered with this mascara is that the wand occasionally picks up a lot of pigment. As a result, my mascara may apply thickly but it can quickly be thinned out with a tiny amount of water.

If you are looking for a high-end mascara that packs volume, length, and pigment I would recommend Marc Jacob’s Velvet Noir Mascara! Each individual tube retails for $32 at Sephora.

3 Unexpected Ways to Use Micellar Water

Hello, lovelies!

I recently discovered the incredible product that is micellar water. I’ve tried both micellar waters from Marcelle and Garnier with great results! I use this product daily to remove my makeup and refresh my skin, but did you know that the cleansing product can be used in unexpected ways? Here are three other ways to use micellar water that you might not know about!

What is micellar water?

Micellar water is a cleansing product for the skin that is composed of purified water and micelles, which help pull impurities, makeup, and dirt from the skin when soaked into a cotton pad.

Unexpected Ways to Use Micellar Water

Use it as a toner

Micellar water acts as a great toner. It is a cleanser that acts similar to a toner, but it doesn’t contain the oil-stripping ingredients that are often found in toners. Micellar water can be used as a toner after you cleanse your skin and before applying the rest of your skincare products.

Use it as a makeup brush cleaner

Because micellar water removes dirt and oil on the skin, it can also do the same for makeup brushes! If you don’t have a makeup brush cleaner on hand, micellar water can replace it in a pinch. Simply switch the micellar water for where you would brush cleaner and clean your brushes as normal.

Hydrate your skin on-the-go

I regularly use micellar water if I need to refresh my skin and don’t have my trusty MAC Fix+ nearby. A small bottle of micellar water fits into purses and bags for easy transportation. The product is refreshing and works well in a pinch.

3 Products I Bought At Sephora to Achieve Clear Skin

Hello, lovelies!

I’ve tried many different products and samples to maintain clear skin. Some products were ineffective, while others stopped working once my skin acclimatized to them. The products I currently use are soothing on my sensitive skin while still effective for breakouts.

1. Tarte Cosmetics Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

This brightening gel cleanser from Tarte is gentle enough to use daily to cleanse and reduce breakouts. It does not foam or leave any residue, which keeps my skin clear without clogging my pores. This cleanser is the main product I apply as part of my skin care routine.

2. GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment

I like to apply a heavy-duty cleanser once a week. GlamGlow’s Super Mud Clearing Treatment is a thicker mud mask that minimizes pores while maintaining the skin’s natural moisture. It contains active charcoal and salylic acid to lift away dirt and other skin-clogging debris. This mask refreshes my skin and decreases any blemishes I may have.

3. Clarins SOS Hydra Refreshing Hydration Mask

One skincare product I don’t use diligently is a moisturizer. On days when my skin is dry and just needs extra moisture, I apply this hydration mask from Clarins. It is a cooling, cream-gel mask that delivers hydration. While it does not cleanse or brighten my skin, it effectively hydrates and refreshes my skin. If my skin appears drier or dull this mask is the perfect product to introduce more moisture into my skin.

Hello, lovelies!

The Moisturizer

It is a lightweight, creamy moisturizer. When applied to the skin, the product dries quickly without leaving a residue. The moisturizer smells faintly of Jasmine and fresh roses.

3 Ways to Enhance Your Lashes With Mascara

Hello, lovelies!

Even if you weren’t born with long, voluminous lashes, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get them with a few easy tricks. I love experimenting with new tips and ideas to apply mascara to lengthen and enhance my natural lashes. Here are my top tips to enhance eyelashes with mascara!

Twirl your mascara wand for maximum effect

Twirl your mascara wand inside the tube instead of pumping it to avoid letting excess air into the product. Pumping the wand into the tube increases the likelihood that bacteria will get into the mascara. Twirling your mascara wand inside the tube will also help dispense extra product onto the wand.

Find the best wand shape for your eyes

Not all mascara wands are one-size-fits-all. If you have monolids or a smaller eye shape, a smaller mascara wand will enable to reach all your lashes. The point of mascara is to ensure that it reaches all your lashes. If you have a smaller eye shape, look for a smaller shaped mascara wand.

Curl your lashes for 10 seconds at a time

Your eyelashes are fragile, so they should only be curled once at a time. Hold your eyelash curler on your lashes for 10 seconds to give them volume without causing them to loosen from your eyelid.

What is your favourite tip for applying mascara?

3 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Blogging

Hello, lovelies!

Blogging takes time and effort. I’ve learned a few lessons since I began my blog, and have compiled a breakdown of some of things I wish I’d known when I started my blog that I will share with you.

Maintaining social media can be tiring

It takes time and work to maintain various social media accounts. As I write this post, I mentally note that I’ve barely opened my Instagram app in days. I sometimes feel pressure to consistently post on my blog and social media, but it is a good idea to take a break from posting. Consistently posting and preparing content can feel draining and it’s important to acknowledge that it’s okay if you don’t have posts prepared for every day of the week!

Be passionate

Writing about topics that you are passionate about will majorly benefit your blog. If you aren’t passionate about your niche and ideas, you’ll find it difficult to make it as a blogger.

Joining social media groups in your niche will be helpful

I’ve joined multiple Facebook and Twitter groups related to beauty and lifestyle topics since I began my blog. These groups are beneficial for multiple reasons. First, it’s wonderful to have a place where other bloggers share the same ‘language’ as you do. I also adore these groups when I’m stuck for inspiration. Finding new bloggers or content to read is an excellent source of inspiration when you encounter writer’s block.

REVIEW: Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil

Hello, lovelies!

I adore products that remove my makeup gently. I’ve tried Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm  before and it removed my makeup effortlessly. However, I did not enjoy the texture. I was quite excited when I received a sample of the Cleansing Oil to test in comparison to the makeup wipes I always use.

The Packaging

The product has a watery texture and is packaged in a bottle with a sleek pump. Like other Clinique products, the bottle is a chic, transparent purple that bears the brand’s logo. I like that the packaging is lightweight and mess-free. It is also composed of plastic, not glass, so it will not shatter if dropped. (I tested this fact after the bottle fell off my bathroom counter last week).

The Cleanser

I love the texture and how easy the cleanser is to use. It feels like an oil when applied to the skin, but does not contain any actual oils. It contains oil-like ingredients plus emulsifiers to break down makeup. The product dissolves makeup the second it is applied to the skin. It leaves my skin feeling soft. I have acne-prone skin, and this cleanser is ideal for removing makeup without clogging my pores!

How to use it

Apply the cleanser to dry skin, gently massage, then rinse with water. The cleanser will lightly foam. I like to rinse my skin twice after using the product to remove any makeup residue that may be left behind. I’ve used this cleanser with both cold and warm water and noticed that warm water is the most effective to rinse away any residue.

Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil is a perfect makeup remover for quick, easy makeup removal. It retails for $35 at Sephora.
