3 Quick Tips for Clear, Glowing Skin All Year-Round

Hello, lovelies!

Achieving a healthy, glowing complexion takes time. I still struggle with breakouts at age 21. After modifying my skin care routine I’ve determined specific steps to minimize imperfections and enhance my natural glow. Today I share a few of the tips I use on a daily basis with you.

TIP #1 – Moisturize your face 

I’ve noticed that using moisturizer makes a huge difference to my skin. If I don’t follow up with moisturizer after cleansing, my skin feels tight. New breakouts also appear when I skip this step. Moisturizing each day adds a healthy layer of moisture into your skin. This moisture prevents the skin from becoming dry and tight – preventing new breakouts.

TIP #2 – Hands off 

Touching your face throughout the day introduces new bacteria into the skin. Keep your hands away from your face to prevent new acne from occurring. When you do not touch your face, your skin stays clear from excess dirt and oil.

TIP #3 – Drink enough water 

Water impacts your skin health. Drinking adequate water helps the skin appear brighter. It also lessens the chance of introducing new particles into the skin. Adequate water consumption hydrates the skin.

Behind the Blogger: 5 Fun Facts About Erin Angela That You May Not Know (Kittens and Wine Included!)

For those of you who are new to my blog, welcome! Today I thought it would be fun to write a post featuring fun facts about me. I wrote a similar post when I began my blog. A post featuring 10 fun facts is an entertaining way to introduce myself to you. Here are 10 fun facts about me:

1. Wine and coffee are my two favourite beverages

I have not found a way to combine them, though. If anyone ever has an idea for wine-flavoured coffee, I’m all ears! I drink at least one coffee per day. I mainly drink Starbucks coffee, but I have discovered flavours from local coffee shops I enjoy. I own an expanding collection of cute coffee mugs. I enjoy a good glass of wine, especially white wine + rose wine. Wine is the main alcohol type I drink.

2. I have one year of studies left before becoming a social worker 

Social work is my dream job. I enjoy helping others, and my own life experiences  inspired me to pursue this career path. I’ve wanted to study social work since the age of 13.

3. They say good things come in small packages 

I stand at 4’10” tall. I like to make up for my lack of height with personality and determination. I’m optimistic, cheery, and persistent. I always hear, “good things come in small packages” and like to think that is true about myself.

4. I own two pets – a bright-orange cat and a German Shepherd Husky who is bigger than me 

My cat, Cody, has been a part of the family for 10 years. The dog, Bear, is a recent addition. Bear is approximately 8 months old and he weighs more than I do. I tried to photograph them together, but that is not an easy thing to accomplish.

5. Lipstick is my top beauty essential 

My purse contains at least two tubes of lipstick at all times. I wear lipstick every day. The shades in my collection range from a peachy-nude to purple. I wear red most often, but rotate the shades I wear based on the season. I reach for paler shades during the summer, and richer colours in the winter.

REVIEW: NARS Audacious Mascara 


Hello, lovelies! 

I search for a new mascara every 3-6 months, as they tend to dry out. I’ve only tried NARS blush before. I decided to test another product from the NARS collection.

The Packaging 

NARS Audacious Mascara is in a sleek black tube. The attached mascara wand has wide, separated bristles. These bristles reduce the chance of mascara clumping. Each bristle is rubber, and they feel pointy compared to softer bristles. 

The Mascara 

I bought this mascara in black – my standard colour. I adore the wear of this mascara. It does not flake or clump on my lashes. NARS Audacious Mascara makes it easy to enhance your eye makeup with two coats. I used this mascara as eyeliner last week and it held upsurprisingly  well on my lashline.

3 Smoothie Hacks to Upgrade Your Morning Smoothie

Hello, lovelies!

A cold, refreshing smoothie makes a quick snack or filling breakfast. Multiple combinations of fruits, yogurt and other ingredients make it a customizable drink. There are tips to help you make the creation process smoother. 

Hack #1 – Freeze fresh ingredients into ice cube trays

If you don’t have ingredients like spinach, coffee, or banana on hand try freezing them the week before into ice cube trays. I sometimes create coffee-flavored ice cubes to add into my frozen coffee drinks. 

Hack #2 – Start the blender slowly

Beginning the blender use with the lowest speed option ensures that you don’t put as much wear/tear on the machine. 

Hack #3 – Create a smoothie bowl

Pour your smoothie into a bowl and top it with fruits or nuts to upgrade your typical smoothie routine.

Erin Angela’s Daily Essentials: The Top 4 Items You’ll Find on My Desk Each Day

Hello, lovelies!

My desktop is not always the most organized. During the semester it is piled with textbooks, notes, and reminder Post-Its. There are specific items I use throughout the year – my desk essentials.

LAPTOP

My laptop is a staple object on my desk. I use it throughout the day to edit posts, respond to e-mails and complete research for new posts. My laptop usage increases when a semester is in session. I bought my MacBook Air when I began university.

CALENDAR + PLANNER

I keep both a calendar pad and planner on my desktop. Both pieces of stationary track important dates, assignment deadlines and reminders. As my planner is portable, I take it with me when out of the house.

BLOGGING NOTEBOOK

A teal blue clasped notebook holds all my blog post ideas. I track each date and post topic. I found this notebook at my local Chapters-Indigo. While this notebook sits next to my laptop most of the time, it is small and portable for travelling.

SNACKS/WATER/COFFEE

I stay hydrated with a combination of coffee and water. Both a water bottle and coffee cup remain on my desk while I work. I drink Keurig pods for a quick caffeine boost.

REVIEW: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume

Hello, lovelies!

I search for a new fragrance every few months and vary the scents I wear based on the season. I found Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume at Sephora. Upon testing the fragrance, it reminded me of spring. Viktor & Rolf are an Amsterdam-based design team. Flowerbomb is their debut fragrance.

The Packaging 

The glass bottle containing the perfume is octagon-shaped. Inside the bottle is the pale pink perfume – the colour of a peony. The geometric pattern on the bottle is fun and unique. Like other perfume bottles, this one contains a spray nozzle.

The Scent 

Flowerbomb is a delightful combination of floral notes.  I sense hints of jasmine, freesia, and rose. The scent is mildly floral, but not overpowering. The fragrance begins with hints of rose and citrus. It dries down to a sweet vanilla scent with light jasmine notes. I often avoid flower-scented perfumes. This one, however, is mild for my liking.

The perfume is long-lasting. It reveals different fragrance notes as it dries down. I enjoy the scent. Floral perfumes are often cloying and overpowering. This one is the opposite –  light and mild.

This fragrance is is just one of the company’s perfume sets. Other perfumes available in Viktor & Rolf’s collection include the Bonbon Collection and the Spice Collection. Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Perfume retails at Sephora for $195.

3 Tips You Should Use to Help You Get a Better Night’s Sleep 

Hello, lovelies!

Keeping a consistent sleep schedule contributes to better health and wellness. Achieving adequate sleep is easier than you think. From living with petds, I’ve adapted and simplified my nightly routine. Today I share tips to help you get better shut eye each night. 

1. Practice a bedtime ritual 

A relaxing routine before bed helps separate your sleep time from activities that cause excitement. Practice relaxing activities like taking a bubble bath or turning off technology 30 minutes before bedtime will help you achieve deeper sleep.

2. Exercise daily

Vigorous exercise is best, but any amount of physical activity attributes to restful sleep. Exercising at any time of day is beneficial. 

3. Ensure your mattress and pillows are comfortable

The typical lifespan of a mattress is 10 years. Your mattress and pillows should be cool, comfortable and supportive.
