I received a sample of MAC’s Prep+Prime Skin Base with purchase over the summer, and I was very excited to try a gel lotion primer. This product is a unique lotion that evens out skin redness and discolouration while adding radiance. I replaced my moisturizer and primer with this product to test it and loved the results!
This product is sleek and lightweight. The product is packaged inside a bottle that mimics an aerosol can, however the nozzle functions similar to a pump. It features the MAC logo and contains 30 ml of product. My favourite aspect of the packaging is the multi-coloured shimmering particles on the bottle that results in a glittering effect when the bottle is turned.
The primer itself is white but has small golden flecks in it. It feels very lightweight and soft when applied to the skin, drying down without feeling sticky. This primer gave my skin a luminous glow underneath my makeup.
How to use it
I like that this product is easy to apply and dries down quickly. To apply, smooth the product over your face after moisturizing. The product can be applied with the fingertips, a brush, or a sponge.
MAC’s Prep+Prime Skin is a unique primer that evens out skin tone, provides a glowing radiance to the complexion, and feels soft to the touch. I enjoyed trying this product as a primer and it is quite unique compared to other primers that I’ve tried! MAC’s Prep+Prime Skin retails for $31 on MAC’s official website.
Where I live on the east coast of Canada, we get approximately 10 days of summer weather. When the weather is hot and sunny it is inevitable that you’ll spend time outside. Sunburns are often synonymous with summer, but you don’t have to suffer long with the burning, blistering sensation that the burn often leaves! Here are three quick ways to sooth a sunburn.
Apply a cooling sensation
Applying a cold compress or wet washcloth to the skin is a quick way to sooth the stinging, burning sensation from a sunburn. This method is more effective than applying ice to the skin, as it can damage your skin and irritate the sunburn even more.
Take an anti-inflammatory
This is a quick method to use when your sunburn is inflamed and painful. Taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or Advil will help reduce swelling and inflammation in the skin.
Drink a lot of fluids
Drinking more fluids when you have a sunburn will help replenish the moisture that leaves your skin when you are sunburned. Increasing your fluid intake will also prevent you from becoming dehydrated. I like to keep a reusable water bottle nearby when lounging in the sun to maintain my fluid intake.
We all have mornings where there’s simply no time to complete a full makeup routine. On these types of mornings, I simplify my makeup routine. This simplified routine still feels polished, but takes less than five minutes to complete!
I apply moisturizer every morning, regardless of how rushed I may be. Moisturizer gives my skin a boost of hydration and brightens my complexion. The main moisturizer in my routine is GlamGlow’s WaterBurst Moisturizer – it is lightweight and leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed. I complete my face makeup with a few swipes of concealer. The concealer I love right now is Tarte’s Creaseless Concealer.
A simple winged eyeliner does wonders to widen and brighten my eyes. I apply NYX Epic Ink Liner because it is waterproof and lasts all day. I then apply two coats of mascara to lengthen my lashes.
Lipstick is a staple in my daily makeup routine. On days when I am wearing minimal makeup, I apply a brightly coloured shade. Two shades that I wear regularly are Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Sarafine, a gorgeous deep red; or Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink in the shade Heroine, a bright orange-red.
I recently received a package from the brand Coloured Raine in exchange for a review. I was eager to try the liquid lipsticks contained within the package. I received a variety of liquid lipsticks that have matte and glossy finishes. Coloured Raine was founded in 2013 by Loraine Dowdy. The brand is cruelty-free. This is the first time I’ve tried cosmetics from the brand, and I instantly fell in love with the lipsticks!
The packages are stunningly beautiful. Each liquid lipstick comes in a lightweight, transparent tube that displays the lipstick’s true colour. I adore the hot pink details that adorn the top of the lipstick cover and transcend down the tube. Each lipstick is lightweight and travel-friendly. The lipstick wand is longer than other wands I’ve tried, but it has a doe foot applicator.
I received four lipsticks – three of the shades are matte, and one is a lacquer formula. The shades are described below:
- Cherry Blossom Lip Lacquer – A bright, blue-based red
- Mars Liquid Lipstick – Dusty rose
- Nude Liquid Lipstick – Burnt sienna with a pale brown undertone
- Roulette Liquid Lipstick – Royal purple
Coloured Raine’s lipsticks have one of the best formulas that I’ve tried recently. The shade Cherry Blossom has a glossy formula that feels slightly sticky upon initial application. It dries down to a glossy finish that is smooth. However, it is not as long-wearing as the matte shades. Each of the matte lipsticks is highly pigmented, and do not flake or fade with wear. The matte shades are opaque, long-wearing, and not patchy.
Each lipstick is opaque, pigmented and comfortable on the lips. I always apply my lipstick over a lip pencil, and the matte shades wear for 6-8 hours without fading or flaking. I tested the shade Cherry Blossom for the first time yesterday. Because it is a lacquer formula, it transfers easily. However, the shade fades into a beautiful popsicle-pout stain that lasts for an additional 1-2 hours.
I am very impressed with the quality, wear, and formula of Coloured Raine’s Liquid Lipsticks! If you are looking for an affordable, high-quality liquid lipstick I would definitely recommend this brand. Stay tuned for additional reviews! Coloured Raine’s Matte Liquid Lipsticks retail for $17 while the Lip Lacquers retail for $15. Each lipstick is available from Coloured Raine’s official website.
It can seem tough to complete every task on an endless to-do list. There may never be enough hours in the day to complete everything, but with a few simple tips, it is easy to increase your productivity.
1. Complete the least desirable task first
Starting your day by completing the task you dread the most will encourage you to complete it faster so you can move on to more enjoyable tasks. Completing the hardest, least-desirable tasks first will make your day better.
2. Create a daily ‘to-do’ list
I love creating daily lists of tasks. A daily list enables you to visualize the tasks you must complete throughout the day. Also, it is a helpful tool to prioritize each of those tasks. Are some tasks urgent? Does it have to be completed by the end of day, or end of the week? A ‘to-do’ list provides you with a framework of what must get completed on a daily or weekly basis.
3. Stay positive, and take breaks
A positive outlook will help you stay on track. Working hard is easier when you are happy and positive. One way to increase your positivity is to take regular breaks throughout the day – breaks help you refocus.
4. Schedule everything
My planner is attached to my hip, and I believe that if something doesn’t get scheduled, it does not get done. Scheduling every appointment I have or task to complete helps me stay productive and on-time.
Do you have any time-management tips? If so, leave a comment below, I’d love to hear about them!
June 10 was National Rose Day. Anyone who knows me will know that I am an avid wine drinker. This will be a short and sweet blog post, as I’ve been suffering from seasonal allergies since Friday! To commemorate National Rose Day, I’m sharing my favourite types of rose. *clink!*
Barefoot Bubbly wine is technically a white wine, but the wine has a bright pink hue. Sparkling wines are crisp. The brand’s White Zinfandel wine is my go-to. I enjoy light, refreshening wine flavours. This bottle contains notes of strawberry and peach. The addition of a bubbly texture gives the wine a crisp, delightful taste. I choose this wine most often due to its light taste (and the bubbles, of course!)
Yellowtail Wine hails from Australia. This wine is prominent during my family’s holiday celebrations, especially Christmas and Easter. Pink Bubbles (I love that name!) is another sparkling wine, but it contains more carbonation. The flavour of this wine is bright. This Yellowtail carries strawberry tasting notes with hints of lemon.
Jacob’s Creek Moscato Rose
This type of wine is a delicious mix between Rose and Moscato. Jacob’s Creek Moscato Rose is a true summer beverage – tasting notes include fresh summer berries. This wine is created “frizzante” style, meaning it is gently sparkling.
What is your favourite type of wine?
I wear a lot of lipstick. As a result, my lips consistently feel dry and chapped. I decided to try Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask. I have not tried a lip mask before this one, but this one delivers intensive moisture!
The mask is contained in a triangular, slate-grey tube. It is sleek and sophisticated, bearing the ‘Bite Beauty’ logo on the outside. I like that this packaging is lightweight. The tube has a small nozzle to dispense the mask.
The mask itself is dense and thick, with a slightly grainy texture. Because of the thick texture, I find that the mask creates a transparent film on my lips that effectively locks-in moisture. The mask has a pleasant honey scent with hints of vanilla. To my surprise, the mask feels lightweight when applied to my lips.
How to use it
Squeeze a small amount of the mask onto the tip of your finger and apply to the lips.
Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask is available in 5 colours:
- Lavender – Pale pink
- Maple – Sheer bronze
- Champagne – Rose gold pearl
- Smashed – Sheer candy-apple red
- Natural – Clear
I own the shade Natural. If you are looking for a hydrating, quick lip mask I’d recommend Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask. It retails for $30 at Sephora.
