A Quick Guide to 3 Popular Makeup Trends for Summer 2017

Hello, lovelies!

Makeup trends traditionally leaned toward bronzed skin, coral lips, and gold eyelids. The common trends this season are beginning to change. For summer 2017,  pastels and graphic cool tones are popular. Each colour trend is versatile. The colours are perfect to wear subtly or enhanced.

White eyeliner

Coloured eyeliner makes the eyes pop. The colour white gives the eye a crisp, fun look. White eyeliner is versatile to wear with coloured eyeshadow or your favourite earthy shades. Sephora offers various white liners. My favourites include: Sephora Collection Colourful Wink-It Felt Liner and Nars Velvet Eyeliner

Sunset Eye

Summer is encapsulated in this trend. A sunset eye features warm hues reminiscent of a summer night sky. This trend is bold but wearable by toning down makeup on the rest of the face. To achieve a sunset eye, mix warm shades like red, burnt orange, and yellow.

Holographic Makeup

This trend is inspired by shine and metallics. Core colours used to create this makeup look include silver, pink, blue and lilac. Holographic makeup is reminiscent of princess sparkle and prisms. This hue is featured in highlighter, eyeshadow and eyeliner. My top holographic picks from Sephora include: Kat Von D Alchemist Palette and Milk Makeup Holographic Stick

Clarins Double-Fix Mascara

Hello, lovelies!
I bought a kit filled with mascara samples from my local drugstore last month. It contained mascaras from brands including Lancome, Smashbox, and Clarins. Double Fix Mascara is the first product I’ve tried from the Clarins brand. This unique mascara contains a double-use topcoat for lashes.
The Packaging

This mascara features a multicoloured tube. The wand is attached to a red-chrome cylinder while the product is contained in a white cylinder. Most mascara packages are black, so this colour combination offers a nice contrast.

The Mascara

Why is the mascara called double-fix? The mascara is both a top-coat mascara and regular mascara. The unique topcoat waterproofs eyelashes for mascara application. One portion of the cylinder contains a black mascara. The waterproof portion of the product is a clear, mess-free gel.
This mascara is waterproof and does not smudge. I wore it for 8-9 hours last week, and to my delight, it still appeared freshly-applied!

Clarins Double Fix Mascara retails for $35 at Nordstrom.

REVIEW: Tarte Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lip Paint

Hello, lovelies!

I bought this liquid lipstick while searching for new brands to test. As you know, I am a huge fan of liquid lipstick. I own an extensive collection of Anastasia Beverly Hills and Kat Von D lipsticks. I bought Tarte Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lip Paint to compare another brand to my collection.

The Packaging

The lipstick comes in a cardboard case that features a mixture of stripes. Half the stripes are gold. The other half reflect the colour of the lipstick inside. The lipstick itself is in a container with a wand. The wand has a doe-foot applicator.

The Colour

Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint is available in 19 matte shades. I bought the colour Manbun. Manbun is described as a “dark berry” but appears brown with a hint of berry once on the lips. It gives a great pop of deeper colour.

The Formula

My biggest issue with the lipstick is the formula. It is mousey in texture, and glides across the lips. However, once I applied it, the colour began to patch and bleed instantly. Compared to other liquid lipsticks in my collection, the lipstick is not long-wearing. I did not find this lipstick wearable because of this. The lipstick has a minty flavour. The mousse texture makes the lipstick comfortable to wear.

I did not enjoy this lipstick as much as others that are in my collection. While it does have redeeming qualities, the patchy wear and deep colour did not suit my typical lipstick preferences. I have not tried a lighter colour for comparison, but if you have, let me know in the comments!

Tarte Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint retails for $24 at Sephora.

REVIEW: Origins Skin Re-Texturizing Mask

Hello, lovelies!

I received a sample of this mask about a month ago. I’m already a fan of Origins Active Charcoal Mask and wondered how this one compared. This mask contains nourishing clay and beads to refresh the skin.

The Packaging

The first thing about this mask that caught my eye? The pink colour. I hoped this mask was packaged in the same format as the charcoal mask – the colour of the tube is the same colour as the product. To my delight, the product is a pale pink. The tube I own is travel-sized.

What is in the mask?

Origin’s Skin Re-Texturizing Mask contains Mediterranean Rose Clay, Willow Herb (sourced from Canada) and jojoba beads. The jojoba beads gently exfoliate the skin.

How to use it

Wash your face with water then massage into the skin with your fingertips. I massage enough product into my skin so that it turns a light pink. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. I use this mask 1-2 times per week.

I noticed improvement in my skin. My skin feels healthier and supple. It is smoother. This mask is starting to reduce my pores and imperfections. The jojoba beads provide a gentle exfoliation without scrubbing.

This Origins mask comes in two different sizes at Sephora. A 10 ml pouch retails for $5.00. The full-sized mask contains 3.4 oz of product. It retails for $32.

REVIEW: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost Moisturizer

Hello, lovelies!

I received a sample of Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer during a Sephora trip. This moisturizer is a lightweight gel that is water based. It hydrates the skin with hyaluronic acid and Tarte’s exclusive antioxidant complex.

The Packaging

The container features a metallic gold cover. Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea products come in whimsical packages. The packages feature blue, purple, and aqua designs. This design is fun and pleasing to the eye. Each sample-sized jar is lightweight.

The Product

This moisturizer is a cooling gel. It absorbs into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling. The gel has a thick texture. When I first tested this product, I was unsure of how it would feel on my skin. When I began using the moisturizer it felt mildly sticky . Once the product adjusts to your skin type this feeling disappears. To my surprise, it did not leave a residue and dried within a second. I enjoy the light lavender scent. It offers a light hydration to prime the skin for makeup. The moisturizer contains water and sea-salt extracts to replenish moisture in the skin. It does not contain parabens. It is also hyperallergenic.

How to use it

Apply to cleansed skin 1-2 times per day. I apply it once in the morning. It is also suitable to use in the morning and night. My skin is drier. I like to use it twice per day to replenish lost moisture.

The full-sized jar retails for $47 at Sephora. This moisturizer is also available as a sample.
About Me

Meet the Millennial Blogger: How and Why I’ve Grown to View Beauty, Strength, and Positivity in My Physical Disability

Hello lovelies!

Find beauty, strength, and positivity in everything.

If you have followed my blog for a while, you will remember when I wrote this post last fall. I toyed around with the idea of expanding upon the post. I share my story hoping that it will let you get to know me better. I write this post to inspire.

Behind the Blogger

My name is Erin Angela. I’m a blogger from Canada. I have a physical disability, called Cerebral Palsy (CP). CP is a movement disorder that results from brain damage. My diagnosis came at birth. Despite being told I would likely never walk or talk, I thrived. I am now in university, studying social work.

On Beauty

Beauty is more than skin deep. Inner beauty radiates and shines. My disability gifted me with negative and positive views of beauty. Once I entered my teenage years, my scars and imperfections were a source of displeasure. It took time to accept my surgical scars. I slowly grew to love them. I gained true appreciation for them. On the other end of the beauty spectrum, I learned to recognize beauty in the most unlikely of places. I learned to recognize my inner beauty. I learned to recognize my uniqueness.

On Strength

When faced with a challenge or setback, I thrive. Despite difficult recovery periods, I bounced back twice as strong. It is sometimes difficult to find strength within yourself. My strength has served as a way to cope and thrive with my disability.

On Positivity

A positive outlook is essential for living with a disability. I’ve always held a happy-go-lucy, positive attitude. I view my disability as positive: Without a disability, I would not be pursuing a social work career. I would not have encountered many incredible experiences throughout my lifetime. Developing a positive attitude is not easy, though. I became determined to focus on the positive aspects of my disability.
How do you face life challenges?

Fresh Beauty Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask

Hello, lovelies!

I deemed 2017 as the year of the face mask. To give my skin a refresh, I decided to test different face mask products. I received a sample jar of this mask with purchase at Sephora, and was eager to try it. This is the first product I’ve tried from Fresh. The mask is composed of a vitamin fruit complex (and smells like citrus fruits!)

The Packaging

The product is packed into a heavy glass jar. I like the removable insert that sits on top of the product, it keeps the mask fresher. One issue I encountered with this packaging is the cover. It takes some twisting and turning to remove, which is not a quick process once hands are wet. The size is ideal. At 100 ml, this is a lot of product.

The Mask

Once the jar is opened, you are greeted with a refreshing citrus scent. The mask itself is textured like a gel. I initially thought this to be a thick texture. Once applied to the face and mixed with water, the mask thins. It contains crystals of citrus fruit, which do not irritate the skin. It is light orange in colour. After the first use, I noticed my skin felt softer. My skin appeared more radiant and bright.

How to use the mask

Apply the mask to clean, damp skin. I rub it into my skin in a circular motion. Let the mask sit for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. I use this mask 1-2 times per week.

I enjoy refreshing my skin with Fresh Beauty’s Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boost face mask. The process of using the mask is not complex, and it is a quick addition to my weekly beauty routine. (Plus, the citrus scent is heavenly!)

This mask retails for $80 at Sephora. It is also available in a sample-size.
