3 Creative Ways to Use Blush in Your Daily Beauty Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Blush is for more than just adding colour to your cheeks. There are multiple ways to add blush to your daily makeup routine. A beautiful blush shade is a versatile for the eyes, cheeks, and lips.

Turn your favourite shade into a nail polish colour

Crush a small amount of blush to turn it into a powder before mixing it into transparent nail polish. After adding the blush, shake the nail polish bottle well to blend the colour. Apply it to your nails the same way as other nail polishes.

Blend out tan lines

Do you have any unwanted tan lines? To cover (or blend out) tan lines, dip a large, fluffy brush into a light blush shade. Blend the blush into your skin to block out tan line.

Create a monochromatic colour palette

Blush is an ideal tool for creating a monochromatic makeup look. With just one product, you can add more vibrance to your face. Apply your favourite shade of blush to the eyes, lips, and cheeks for monochromatic makeup. I like to create this look with peach or pink blush.

Pretty in Pink: Erin Angela’s Top 3 Rose-Toned Beauty Products

Hello, lovelies!

I’ve become increasingly fond of the rose-toned makeup products in my makeup bag. I usually rotate through different color tones in my makeup palette. Rose tones are the central color this month, and today I share three products I use to achieve it.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio

Each Blush Trio offers a combination of pink blushes that are highly pigmented. I own the Pool Party compact. It features pink tones that range from bubblegum pink to coral. This blush is one of my favorite pink-toned products – it adds a beautiful tint to my cheeks without the color appearing too pink. I wear these shades daily, but they compliment any pink-hued eyeshadow.

2. Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette

This eyeshadow  features nine pink-toned shades. The shimmery pinks and matte mauve shadows are an ideal base for a rose-colored eye makeup. I often mix the pink pearl shades with my Modern Renaissance palette to create a soft, warm smoky eye.  My favorite shades from this compact are coral, mulberry, and a shimmering icy-pink.

3. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

I rarely wear lip gloss but I picked up this gloss to compliment some of my matte lipstick shades. This gloss from Fenty Beauty is a shimmering rose-nude. It gives my lipstick shades a soft rose undertone. I use this product to add a hint of pink to my lips, and it is ideal to balance a smoky eye.

REVIEW: Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio

Hello, lovelies!

Blush is one item that I’ve worn a lot this season. My go-to blush is Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio in the shade Pool Party. This blush palette gives my skin the perfect hint of pink.

The Packaging

The blushes come in a sturdy, weighted compact. This design makes the blushes travel-friendly and easy to mix-and-match. I adore the sleek design of the palette, which features the ABH logo and a shiny black finish.

The Blush

The blush texture is soft, smooth and not chalky. The blush applies creamy but remains dry. Each colour is buildable and allows you to apply a lighter or darker shade.

The Colour

I own the Pink Passion palette. This palette features peach and pink blushes. The three colours in this palette are:

  • Basically – Orchid pink
  • Sugar – Bubblegum pink
  • Rose – Petal pink

Overall, this trio of blushes is a great product if you’re looking for a lightweight, pigmented blush. Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio retails at Sephora for $30.

About Me

My Sephora VIB Haul: Winter Edition

Hello, lovelies!

It all started when my dog, Bear, ate my favourite blush compact. I glanced at the email advertising the Sephora V.I.B. Sale but did not take particular notice to it because I had nothing to buy. The following morning, my beloved NARS blush fell to the floor and was quickly destroyed. Bear ate the compact’s contents before I cleaned them up. Off to Sephora I headed.

My main purchase was a new blush, but I did select additional items while I browsed. Here is a peek into my VIB Sale Haul:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio

This blush compact features 3 gorgeous pink-toned colours. My biggest concern when buying blush is finding colours that compliment my pale skin. The three shades in this compact deliver delicate pink tones. I normally skip very pink blush colours, but I decided to try them with this compact. The compact I bought the compact called Pool Party. This collection offers a mixture of coral, bright pink, and tan shades.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation

Finding a product that doubles as a concealer and foundation is a dream come true. This foundation is formatted as a stick, which makes it easy to apply to the face. I wore it as my foundation and concealer yesterday and it delivered a comfortable, full-coverage finish. It dried matte but not cakey on my skin. I bought this foundation in the shade Porcelain. This shade is suited for fair skin with cool undertones.

Too Faced Under the Kissletoe Liquified Lipstick Set

I was not initially a fan of Too Faced Liquid Lipstick formula. That being said, I decided to test out a few different formulas in the range. The Under the Kissletoe set is part of their holiday collection. The colours in the set range from a deep burgundy to a glossy nude. This fun set contains 4 lipsticks:

  • Melted Liquid Lipstick in the shade Chihauhua – Dusty mauve
  • Melted Lipstick in the shade Chocolate Honey – Warm-toned nude with brown undertones
  • Melted Latex Lipstick in the shade Hopeless Romantic – Glossy beige-nude
  • Melted Matte Lipstick in the shade Drop Dead Red – Matte burgundy

REVIEW: Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Blush

Hello, lovelies!

I recieved a sample of Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Blush during a recent Sephora trip. I use my NARS blush religiously, and was excited to try a new brand. This blush is a beautiful pale pink.

The Packaging

I adore how lightweight this blush package is. The glossy pink compact features Tarte’s logo. Inside the compact is the pressed blush. The blush is texturized with ridges. The compact colour matches the blush inside.

The Colour

I own the shade Risque. It is a pale pink with nude undertones. When applied to the cheeks, it gives the skin a soft pink flush.

The Formula

A little product goes a long way. I am light-handed when I apply this blush. It is infused with Amazonian clay. This clay is harvested from the Amazon river then baked into the blush formula. This blush is powdery but soft to the touch. The colour is richly pigmented.

The Wear

I adore the wear time of Tarte blushes. It does not settle into my pores and stays pigmented for hours. I typically remove it after 8 hours of wear without any fade.

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush comes in a range of 13 shades:

  •  Paarty – Deep pink
  • Exposed – Nude
  • Sensual – Golden nude
  • Seduce – Rosy nude
  • Risque – Peachy nude

  • Dollface – Light pink

  • Natural Beauty – Muted strawberry red
  • Blushing Bride – Plum-rose

A Complete Guide to Makeup Expiration Dates, and Why You Need to Toss Expired Products ASAP

Hello, lovelies!

Have you been clinging onto your favourite mascara longer than you should? All makeup expires. The expiry date depends on how the product is stored, when it was opened, and the packaging.

Moisturizer

Most moisturizers last about a year. If you notice any discolouration or separation before the year passes, you should discard the product.

Concealers

Concealers use oils and hydrating agents (e.g. Shea butter) to achieve the silky, smooth texture. A concealer typically lasts for a year. If the concealer dries out, becomes cakey, or changes texture you should throw it out. Despite the products purpose of concealing breakouts, using an expired one can make breakouts worse.

Foundation

The type of foundation you use affects the expiration date. A powder, liquid, and cream foundation each have different lifespans. Liquid and cream formulas last between 6-12 months. Powders can last up to 2 years.

Powder and blush

Most powders/blushes last two years. To prevent contamination, you should clean your makeup tools regularly. You should never leave the product exposed to air. To prevent this, close the lid tightly.

Brow Pencil

A brow pencil lasts about 2 years. You should sharpen the pencil regularly to keep it in good condition. Closing the cap tightly after use will also prevent any breakage or bacteria.

Eyeshadow

Eyeshadows last between 6 months and 2 years, depending on the formula. Cream shadows contain hydrating agents that provide moisture. These shadows last about 6 months. Powder shadows can last up to 2 years.

Mascara

Mascaras have a short shelf-life, approximately 4-6 months. Pumping your mascara wand forces air into the tube, drying out the product. Try slowly moving the wand in a circular motion into the tube for full coverage.

Eyeliner

The lifespan of eyeliner is between 4 months and a year. Liquid eyeliners last between 4-6 months as it is more susceptible to contamination. You should discard an eyeliner if you notice any change in texture, colour, or smell. Pencil eyeliners can last up to 2 years.

Lipstick

Most lipsticks last up to 2 years. To care for a lipstick, you should use a lip brush when possible to avoid unnecessary contact with your skin. It is also a good idea to occasionally remove the top layer of product with a makeup wipe.

Your Ultimate Makeup Brush Guide: The Ones You Need + How They Work

Hello, lovelies!

With a variety of makeup brushes out there, it can be overwhelming to find the perfect one for you. Each brush comes in a different shape, size, and format. Today I offer a complete guide to the types of makeup brushes and how to use them.

1. Angled Blush/Foundation Brush

This type of brush is angled to distribute blush into the apples of your cheeks. Dip this brush into your favourite blush then hold it at an angle and brush along your cheekbones. Angled foundation brushes achieve the same purpose for foundation.

2. Concealer Brush

A concealer brush has rounded edges. This shape makes it easier to apply concealer to the nooks and crannies in the face. To use on blemishes and under the eye, apply the concealer in a patting motion.

3. Round Buffing Brush

These rounded brushes are stiff, yet soft. Use this brush by buffing makeup into the skin in small, circular motions. A buffing brush is multipurpose. It may be used for foundation, concealer, blush, or powder.

4. Stippling Brush

Bristles are long, soft and flexible. Stippling brushes contain duo-fiber bristles. Use a buffing motion with this brush to blend product into the skin.

5. Blush Brush

These brushes are rounded with sofr bristles. The shape allows for easy blending. This type of brush is ideal for applying blush, highlight, or bronzer. A blush brush is shaped well to blend product. It is also a good shape to apply powder with.

6. Fan Brush

A fan brush is flat and fanned out. It is flexible for gentle contouring or to sweep away excess powder.

7. Foundation Brush

Foundation brushes are flat and dense, with rounded ends. This type of brush works best when using small brush strokes to apply and blend. A foundation brush is suitable to apply foundation and concealer. It is also useful to blend cream products into the skin.

REVIEW: Nars Blush

Hello, lovelies!

During the winter months, I am Casper-pale. I began wearing blushes and highlighting products within the past year to brighten my complexion. As I don’t wear blush often, I searched for a shade that was soft and subtle. Nars blushes offer just that!

The Packaging

All NARS products are in sleek, black packaging. The blush is in a compact. One side of the compact contains the blush pan, and the other features a small mirror.

The Product

The blush is smooth and non-flaking. It is a shimmer finish, meaning that the colour is sheer and radiant. The shade I own, Orgasm, is peachy-pink with a golden shimmer undertone.

Below is a swatch of the blush:

NARS blushes offer subtle colour for the cheeks. The blush is available in 30 shades. It retails from Sephora for $30.
