3 Creative Ways to Use Activated Charcoal in Your Beauty Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Charcoal is an active ingredient in many beauty products. Active charcoal is medicinally used to remove toxic substances from the body, so it is no surprise that it is also an effective beauty ingredient! I use it in a face mask, but here are other uses:

1. Charcoal Mask

A charcoal mask works by drawing impurities from your pores. It is a good idea to open your pores with a warm cloth before applying a mask. If you do not wish to buy a charcoal mask, it is easy to make one!

Mix equal parts of the ingredients below until it forms an inky paste. Apply to the face and let dry. Rinse with warm water.

  • Activated charcoal powder
  • Water
  • Aloe vera gel

2. Teeth Whitening

Charcoal is micro-porus. This means it will trap plaque and whiten. The charcoal whitens while removing impurities. After applying toothpaste to your toothbrush, dab it in charcoal powder and brush as normal.

3. Create a DIY body scrub

Charcoal powder’s slightly grainy texture makes it a great exfoliator. Mix it into the sugar and liquid you plan to use for the scrub,

REVIEW: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

Hello, lovelies!

I use a mask 1-2 times per week to thoroughly deep-clean my skin. My skin type is dry, and acne-prone. When I heard Origins Active Charcoal Mask is composed of white china clay and glycerin water I decided to give it a try, crossing my fingers that it would banish my blemishes. This charcoal mask not only kept my skin free of dirt and oil but it also left my complexion soft.

The Packaging

The product comes in a triangular tube with a capped closure. I like the tube format of the product, this makes it lightweight. The colour of the product is reflective when you look at the tube – it is a muted ash-grey.

The Mask

adore how this mask works! The texture begins as a liquid and dries into a hardened material once on the skin for a few moments. I rinse with warm water and my skin is softer and feels brighter. The glycerin water and white china clay ingredients clears my pores and absorbs excess toxins.

How to Use It

It is important to note that your pores must be open before using the mask. How do you open your pores?

  • Place a warm, moistened towel on the face for a moment to open pores
  • Apply the mask onto the skin using fingertips
  • Allow the mask to sit until it dries completely
  • Rinse with warm water

I noticed considerable improvement in my skin after using the mask a few times. My pores appeared smaller and I experienced less breakouts. Origins masks are great products to supplement with your weekly skincare routine.

Sephora  sells different sized tubes of this product. A sample-sized container retails for $5. The smaller tube (1.7 oz) is priced at $20 while the largest tube (3.4 oz) is $34.

Have you tried Origins skincare before? If so, what type of mask is your favourite?
