REVIEW: Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadow

Hello, lovelies!

I recently tried a sample of Make Up For Ever’s Aqua XL Colour Paint Shadow, a unique cream eyeshadow. I rarely wear cream eyeshadows, so I was excited to try this one in comparison to my usual eyeshadows! This highly pigmented, creamy eyeshadow is a must-have if you want to try something a little different from your standard eyeshadows!

The Packaging

The product comes in a lightweight triangular tube that bears the Make Up For Ever logo.  It features a black cap and a small slanted nozzle to dispense the product. The product is travel-friendly and easily fits into a handbag, tote, or makeup bag. I love that each tube is coloured differently to represent the shade of the shadow inside.

The Shadow

The shadow initially feels creamy but not oily. It dries down to a matte finish once applied to the lid and does not flake or crease throughout the day. My favourite aspect of these shadows is that the colours stay vibrant and pigmented throughout the day. I’ll admit that I was initially curious about how the formula would dry down, but was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it dried!

The Wear

Each shadow is pigmented and wears comfortably for 10-12 hours without fading. I tested each shade I own with a eyeshadow primer base, and the shades did not budge! Because these shadows dry quickly, I would recommend placing the product exactly where you want it to sit on the eyelid. I love that each shade can be built-up to achieve the desired level of pigmentation, allowing you to create versatile eyeshadow looks.

How to Use It

I adore the ease of use with these shadows! Apply the eyeshadow in thin, sheer layers and allow each layer to dry. I’ve applied them to my eyelid with both a brush and my fingertip and have achieved consistent, vibrant colour. I have, however, noticed that the shadows appear more pigmented when applied with my fingertip.

The Shades

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Paint Shadow is available in a variety of 19 shades:

  • M-10: Matte black
  • M-16: Matte white
  • M-20: Matte dark blue

3 Tips You Need to Know If You Wear Eye Makeup

Hello, lovelies!

Eye makeup can be tricky. Whether you’re a seasoned pro when it comes to winged eyeliner, or you’ve never applied eyeshadow before, there are always new tips you can learn to enhance your eye makeup. Here are three key tips you must know if you wear eye makeup!

Instantly add volume to your eyelashes

Apply mascara from the roots of your lashes and gently wiggle the wand toward the tips. This will instantly add volume to your lashes without weighing them down or resulting in clumped mascara.

Balance your eye makeup with your lipstick

If you are planning to wear bold eyeshadow, opt for a subtle lipstick shade and vice versa. It is always best to emphasize one feature at a time. My favourite combination is a red lip paired with nude eyeshadow shades.

Add height to the arches of your eyebrow

Blend highlighter directly underneath the brow bone to add height and definition to the area. This will also brighten your eyes.

A Comprehensive Guide to the 3 Types of Eyeshadow Primer

Hello, lovelies!

Any great eyeshadow look requires a solid primer. Eyeshadow primer is essential to keep your eyeshadow intact, prevent creasing, and enhance the colour of your shadows. There are various options for eyeshadow primers, and different methods to use your favourite primer.

How to use eyeshadow primer:

  1. Pat a small amount of your eyeshadow primer (or concealer!) onto your eyelid. For me, the most effective way to apply eyeshadow primer is with my fingertips, but it can also be applied with a brush.
  2. Allow the primer to dry
  3. Apply your desired eyeshadow colours

A Guide to Eyeshadow Primer:

Natural eyeshadow primer – Natural eyeshadow primer is the most common type. The formula applies clear, and doesn’t block out the natural colour of your eyelid. Natural eyeshadow primer creates a neutral base for eyeshadow, but it will not tint your eyelids.

Tinted eyeshadow primer – If you’re looking for an eyeshadow primer that creates a neutral base, you’ll want to try a tinted eyeshadow primer. My favourite tinted eyeshadow primer to use is Too Faced Shadow Insurance – it has a subtle beige tint that erases the natural colour of my eyelid. This helps when applying colourful or smoky eyeshadows.

Glitter eyeshadow primer – This type of primer is ideal for pairing with glitter eyeshadows. This primer is specifically designed to prevent glitter from flaking while still providing the benefits of a regular primer. This primer formula will apply clear.
