I often try new mascara brands, and I was excited to receive a sample of Urban Decay’s Troublemaker Mascara. This product is a gorgeous, lengthening mascara.
The mascara comes in a unique, geometric tube. It is lightweight, and a kaleidoscope of color. The mascara wand contained inside features soft, rounded bristles.
I adore this mascara! The bristles are thin, making it easy to apply the product to my lashes. This mascara applies well, but I must note that it tends to flake after multiple hours of wear. I’ve noticed that it lasts longer if I apply a primer before, and this adds extra volume to my lashes. One of my favourite aspects of the mascara is that it is easy to remove at the end of the day.
Urban Decay’s Troublemaker Mascara is a fun, unique product. It is the main mascara I use, and it is a great everyday product. This mascara retails for $24 at Sephora.
While this post is a Sephora Haul, it will mainly focus on skincare products because I needed to replenish them all at the same time! Today I’ll the new products I’ve incorporated into my routine, plus extras I bought while in store.
GlamGlow Waterburst Hydrated Moisturizer
Before I discuss this product, I must tell you all that it smells like blue raspberry candy! I needed a new moisturizer that was lightweight and didn’t feel sticky on the skin. GlamGlow’s Waterburst Moisturizer has a unique, lightweight formula. After a few uses this moisturizer became part of my daily skincare routine.
Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette
This is a perfect travel-friendly eyeshadow palette for the summer months. I decided to add Huda Beauty’s Warm Brown Obsessions Palette to my collection after testing the warm coral, mahogany and brown shades. The small palette contains 9 shadows that are a combination of matte and shimmer finishes.
Tatcha The Deep Cleanse
I love Tatcha’s The Deep Cleanse already! I have difficulty finding skincare products to soothe my dry, acne-prone skin. This cleanser contains natural fruit extracts to remove impurities while gently exfoliating. The formula of this product is unique – it’s a gel cleanser that contains an exfoliant that doesn’t feel scratchy on my skin. I’ve combined it with GlamGlow’s Waterburst Moisturizer and my skin feels smooth, clear and silky!
What products have you recently bought from Sephora?
I recently ran out of my beloved Mac Fix+ setting spray, and searched for an alternative to use until I can restock it. I decided to try Too Faced 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray and it has been a perfect multi-purpose product to prime and set my makeup.
I adore how lightweight, and travel-friendly, this product is. It comes in a bottle with a nozzle to dispense the product onto the skin, meaning it is mess-free. The packaging is bubble-gum pink and bears the Too Faced logo – it is bright and fun.
What is it?
This multipurpose product is a weightless, coconut-infused water mist that primes, sets, and refreshes makeup while hydrating the skin. Because it is infused with coconut, it has a light coconut scent.
This product performs as both a primer and setting spray. The spray has three benefits:
Primes the skin for makeup
Refreshes makeup when used during the day
How to use it
This product works similarly to my MAC Fix+ Setting Spray. Shake the product well then hold the bottle 6-8 inches away from your face. Mist the product onto your skin and let it dry. To use it as a primer, apply it to the skin before makeup. To set makeup, apply it after you’ve finished your makeup. It can also be misted onto the skin anytime throughout the day for an instant refresh.
I use this product as both a primer and setting spray. It leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed, while holding my makeup in place all day! It is a great primer/setting spray combination to use without leaving the skin feeling oily or overly dry. Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray retails for $40 at Sephora.
I’ve recently begun wearing bronzer regularly, and it adds warmth and dimension to my skin. I bought Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer shortly after release and I’ve worn it all season to sculpt my face. This bronzer is the perfect matte formula to wear throughout the spring and summer seasons!
The sleek compact contains the bronzer and a mirror. It is slightly weighted, which gives the product a luxurious feel. The bronzer is pressed into the compact, which means there is no fallout when it is opened. Like all Anastasia Beverly Hills products, the outside of the compact bears the ‘Anastasia Beverly Hills’ logo.
Anastasia Beverly Hils Powder Bronzer has a matte finish. The bronzer is finely-milled, and it does not have a tacky or chunky texture. It feels soft when applied to the skin and it blends easily. A little product goes a long way, and you only need to apply a small amount to achieve full-coverage.
I rarely shop for bronzers because it is difficult to find a shade that is not too dark for my pale skin tone. However, the shade range of Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer is ideal for a variety of skin tones. I bought the shade Rich Amber, a neutral honey. On my skin, the shade is a mid-tone brown with honey undertones.
The bronzer is available in 6 shades:
- Cappuccino – Deep golden-brown
- Mahogany – Rich mocha
- Rich Amber – Neutral honey
- Rosewood – Light golden
- Saddle – Golden amber
- Tawny – Light terracotta brown
Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer is a perfect product to add a subtle dimension to the cheekbones and face. I use it for contouring and it pairs beautifully with blushes and highlights. Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer retails for $36 at Sephora.
I like to update my makeup routine each season. I’m a little late transitioning into my spring makeup, but I’ve begun wearing softer colours and wearing more lightweight products. Today I’m sharing my updated makeup routine for the spring and summer seasons!
I prepped my face with Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer to create a smooth base for my makeup. I applied Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation in the shade ‘Porcelain’ to add warmth to my skin. Next, I covered blemishes with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Chantilly (this concealer has been my go-to for the past few years!). I applied bronzer along my hairline, and underneath my cheekbones. The bronzer I used for this look was Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer in the shade ”Rich Amber’. For my blush, I dusted Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush in the shade ‘Party’ across my cheeks. I completed my face makeup by applying Aurora Glow Kit as highlighter. I mixed the shades ”Lyra’ and ‘Orion’ together to create a unique combination.
I love experimenting with bright, smoky, or glittery eyeshadow combinations. I kept my eyeshadow bright but subtle for this look using Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette. I started by blending the shades ‘Rustic’ and ‘Dusty Rose’ into my crease. I pressed ‘Sienna’ along my entire lid before adding a touch of glitter with the shade ‘Glistening’. I applied this shade to the inner half of my eyelid. I finished my eye makeup with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara to add volume to my lashes.
I kept my lipstick soft and neutral. I applied the shade ‘Kiss’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills Nude Matte Lipstick Set. This shade is a soft nude with a peachy undertone.
I upgraded my brush set a few months ago and have absolutely loved my Sephora Collection Ready to Roll Brush Set. I searched for a set that contained every brush I needed, along with being portable and lightweight. When I tested this set out in store, I immediately knew that I found the perfect brushes. Each of the 10 brushes in this set are high-quality, durable, and apply makeup flawlessly.
The packaging is both sleek and travel-friendly. The brushes are held in a soft, pliable black leather roll that features a cross-hatch design. A small tassel closes the brush roll and it can be rolled loosely or tight. The ‘Sephora’ logo is embossed on the roll. My favourite aspect of the packaging is that there are spaces to fit all 10 brushes, plus any additional brushes you may have. When I first began using this set, the packaging had a strong leathery smell that faded after a few days.
The quality of the brushes is perfection. Each brush is soft, durable and easy to use. The grip on the brush handle is sturdy and the name of each brush is embossed on it. Each brush is dense but feels light on the skin.
This set contains 10 brushes:
A powder brush
A complexion brush
Angled blush brush
Highlight & contour brush
Fluffy smudge brush
Angled liner brush
Each brush is ideal for applying and blending makeup. I use them daily in my makeup routine, and experience zero bristle fallout. I adore the portability, ease of use and easy cleaning of this brush set. If you are looking for a full-sized set to introduce into your makeup collection, Sephora Collection Ready to Roll Brush Set retails for $88 at Sephora.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation is an alternative to traditional, bottled foundation formulas. I use this foundation daily in my makeup routine and it provides buildable, crease-free coverage. I adore this foundation when traveling because the product is a lightweight stick that is shaped like a lipstick bullet.
I love how sleek and sophisticated the packaging is. The foundation itself is encased in a tube that is shaped like lipstick. It is lightweight and features a twistable end. The tube has a glossy, black finish and bears the ‘Anastasia Beverly Hills’ logo.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation has a unique cream formula that dries matte but appears natural on the skin. It is highly pigmented. When you first begin to use a new foundation stick, it feels cakey and does not blend well. However, once you use the product a few times, the formula glides onto the skin and blends with little effort. The foundation covers my blemishes and does not accentuate any dry patches on my skin.
How to use it
I’ve tested this foundation with both a brush and a BeautyBlender. Achieving even coverage is easier with a brush. To use Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation, apply the product directly to the skin and blend it out with a brush. I often hydrate my skin before applying this foundation to ensure the foundation blends well.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation is a convenient, creamy alternative to traditional foundation formulas. It is ideal for travel, and allows you to create both a natural or matte skin finish. The product is available in 30 shades. The shade I own is called ‘Porcelain’ – for fair skin with cool undertones. Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation retails for $33 at Sephora.
Concealer is one of my holy-grail makeup products. While I use it daily to conceal blemishes, it has become a versatile tool in my makeup kit. A lightweight, buildable concealer formula is ideal for use in unexpected ways:
1. Use it as an eyelid primer
Concealer quickly became my eyelid primer. Priming your eyelids with concealer creates a smooth, even base for eyeshadow. Gently dab concealer on your lid before applying eyeshadow for crease-free, vibrant color. Concealer is also an excellent primer for the lips because it neutralizes your lips’ natural hue.
2. Enhance your contour
Once you’ve contoured your cheekbones, use concealer to “reverse contour” by applying concealer above and below where you’ve applied your bronzer. This trick will sharpen the contrast between your contour and highlight, chiseling your cheekbones.
3. Brighten your eyes
I adore using concealer to brighten my eyes. Dab concealer to the inner corner of your eye and below the browbone for an instant lift. Applying concealer underneath the eyes will brighten and add dimension to your face.
Do you have any creative uses for concealer?
Dry shampoo is my lifesaver on mornings when I just don’t have time to wash and dry my hair. John Frieda’s Volumizing Dry Shampoo is one that I’ve used for a long time. Using this dry shampoo is a quick way to remove excess oil from my hair while creating volume.
I adore how compact and lightweight the aerosol canister is. I can easily transport the product in a purse or overnight bag. Because the product is a spray, the canister contains a nozzle to dispense the shampoo. The canister features teal and black color blocks, with the John Frieda logo displayed on the front.
How to use it?
Shake well before use. Lift hair in sections then spray the product into hair in short, quick bursts. Use your fingertips to blend the fine powder into your hair.
Why I love it
My hair is naturally thick. I find that this dry shampoo eliminates excess oil from my hair the best, plus it gives my hair extra volume when I curl it! I also like the small canister size. This size makes it easy to travel with, for touch-ups when I am running errands. Compared to other dry shampoos, John Freida’s does not leave white residue in my hair, nor does it have a talc-like smell.
John Freida’s Volumizing Dry Shampoo is a great product if you want to try a dry shampoo that is easy to use, provides extra volume, and leaves no residue. This dry shampoo can be found in most drugstoresWalmart, or beauty retailers for $6.72.
Sephora’s spring VIB sale took place from April 20-23 for members. During the sale, VIB members received 15% off all purchases, and this was a perfect opportunity for me to stock up on skincare and makeup I recently ran out of! Here’s what I picked up during the sale:
1) Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil – This cleansing oil has become my regular makeup remover. I had a few sample-sized bottles of the oil, but purchased a full-sized bottle after realizing just how often I use it! It is a gentle, effective cleanser to remove my makeup daily and lightly refresh my skin.
2) Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Primer/Setting Spray – I put a sample of Too Faced Hangover Primer in my cart after my beloved MAC Fix+ ran out. The first thing I noticed about this primer after trying it last week was the coconut scent. I like that this product acts as a primer or setting spray. I tested it as both my primer and setting spray yesterday, and it refreshed my skin while holding my makeup in place all day!
3) Bite Beauty Lip Pencil – I apply lip pencil every day. I own two shades of the lip pencil from Bite Beauty (020 + 044). The shade 020 is a beige-nude that is an excellent color to apply underneath any lipstick. I repurchased another pencil in that shade to replace the one I used up. (Plus, I love how easy it is to toss these lip pencils into my purse for touch-ups!)
4) Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick – Bend and Snap – This Too Faced lipstick purchase was an impulse-buy. I own tubes of this formula in a deep, mahogany red and a subtle lavender. One shade I do not have in my lipstick collection is a bright magenta. The shade ‘Bend and Snap’ is that exact match. The formula is lightweight and non-drying on my lips.
5) Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer – Finally, I bought a powder bronzer from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I did not have a bronzer in my collection after misplacing my favorite Too Faced compact. The bronzer from Anastasia Beverly Hills is finely-milled and provides matte coverage. I bought the shade Rich Amber, a gorgeous honey-toned color.
6) Living Proof Restore Conditioner – I received a sample of conditioner from the brand Living Proof. This conditioner renews softness and shine to damaged hair. I’ve tried the conditioner once, and my hair felt softer, bouncier and smooth.
