3 Tips to Help Your Lipstick Last All Day

Hello, lovelies!

I love wearing vibrant, bright lipstick colours. When I apply my lipstick in the morning, I use a few simple tips to keep it in place all day long. (Just a note about these tips: Despite how many I’ve tried, I have discovered that even my longest-wearing lipstick is not kiss-proof.)

1. Exfoliate your lips

Applying a lip scrub to your pout before lipstick prevents your lips from becoming dry. Use a gentle lip scrub to exfoliate the lips and create a smooth canvas for lip colour.

2. Prime your lips with foundation

If you do not have a lip liner, your favourite foundation is a great substitute for a lipstick base! Apply your foundation to the lips and let dry. The colour will diminish the natural pigment of your lips to create a neutral base for lipstick. Lipstick also tends to adhere to the lips better if it is swiped over a base product.

3. Set your lip colour with powder

Apply a translucent/pressed powder to your lips between lipstick coats to strengthen the base for your colour. A translucent/pressed powder will also help set any liner that you applied to the lips.

What are you best tips for long-lasting lipstick?

Sweet as Honey: 3 Ways to Use the Ingredient in Your Beauty Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Honey is often used as a sweetener. It is a delicious, sweet addition to recipes. It also has medicinal purposes. Honey is full of healthy antioxidants that are potent when used on the skin, hair, or nails. Today I share a few of the ways to add honey to your beauty routine.

1. Use it as an exfoliator

Honey contains antioxidants, enzymes and other nutrients that purify and nourish. The moisture in honey hydrates the skin. Create a gentle exfoliator by mixing one tablespoon honey with one tablespoon baking soda. Gently rub the mixture into your skin then rinse with water.

2. Use it to treat acne

Honey contains both antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. These ingredients help fight acne-causing bacteria. Honey also contains anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness in the skin. Apply a dab of raw honey to any blemishes and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with water.

3. Use it as a hair conditioner

Raw honey is a great ingredient to add shine and lustre to the hair. The nutrients and enzymes won’t weigh the hair down. Add coconut oil into the mix to condition the hair. Mix one tablespoon raw honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply the mixture to the bottom of hair strands and work your way up. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes and rinse.

Fresh Beauty Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask

Hello, lovelies!

I deemed 2017 as the year of the face mask. To give my skin a refresh, I decided to test different face mask products. I received a sample jar of this mask with purchase at Sephora, and was eager to try it. This is the first product I’ve tried from Fresh. The mask is composed of a vitamin fruit complex (and smells like citrus fruits!)

The Packaging

The product is packed into a heavy glass jar. I like the removable insert that sits on top of the product, it keeps the mask fresher. One issue I encountered with this packaging is the cover. It takes some twisting and turning to remove, which is not a quick process once hands are wet. The size is ideal. At 100 ml, this is a lot of product.

The Mask

Once the jar is opened, you are greeted with a refreshing citrus scent. The mask itself is textured like a gel. I initially thought this to be a thick texture. Once applied to the face and mixed with water, the mask thins. It contains crystals of citrus fruit, which do not irritate the skin. It is light orange in colour. After the first use, I noticed my skin felt softer. My skin appeared more radiant and bright.

How to use the mask

Apply the mask to clean, damp skin. I rub it into my skin in a circular motion. Let the mask sit for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. I use this mask 1-2 times per week.

I enjoy refreshing my skin with Fresh Beauty’s Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boost face mask. The process of using the mask is not complex, and it is a quick addition to my weekly beauty routine. (Plus, the citrus scent is heavenly!)

This mask retails for $80 at Sephora. It is also available in a sample-size.

5 Feel-Good Skin Care Tips for the Busy Girl

Hello, lovelies!

Your skin is a telltale sign of how you feel. Sometimes you and your skin need a boost. With a busy schedule, it is difficult to maintain a rigid skin care routine.  Today I offer tips to give your skin a little TLC.

Rest your way to better skin

Maintaining an adequate sleep schedule will reduce tiredness. This applies to your skin, too. Your skin will look noticeably better and radiant.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating weekly will keep skin glowing and fresh. Try using a mask with built in moisturizers and antioxidants to brighten skin. Face masks and other products with gritty textures exfoliate gently and are quick to use. One product I use weekly to exfoliate is Fresh Beauty Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask.

Drink more water

Dehydration can cause skin to appear dull. Sometimes all it takes is a glass of water to fix skin woes. Drinking more water helps clear and brighten your skin by flushing out toxins. Another tip involving water: Splash your face with warm water to remove dirt, oil, and makeup from your pores.

Multitask

Instead of skimping on your skincare routine, why not let your products do their work while you lather in the shower? If you are using a product that needs to sit on your skin for 5-10 minutes, apply it before you hop in the shower. Let it do its work while you shower, then wash it off before you step out. The warm water will open your pores, allowing the mask to penetrate deep into your pores.

Beauty Hacks: 5 Other Uses for Coffee (That Don’t Involve Drinking a Cup of It!)

Hello, lovelies!

As it turns out, coffee has multiple uses. Your daily cup of java is great for drinking, but coffee is also a beauty product. Today I share five other uses for your favourite blend. You can try these tips while drinking a cup, but it’s not required.

1. Exfoliation

The grainy texture of coffee grinds make them a great exfoliator. There are coffee scrubs that you can buy. Simple ingredients in your kitchen pantry make an exfoliator. Combine a small bowl of coffee grinds with water or oil to form a paste. Rub the mixture into your skin as you normally would an exfoliator, then rinse.

2. Skin bronzer

The natural colour of coffee makes it a convenient skin bronzer. You can create your own bronzer lotion by combining coffee grounds and olive oil. Measure two parts olive oil into one part coffee grounds. If you wish to deepen the colour, add another part coffee.

3. Hair mask

A hair mask adds shine and lustre to your locks. This trick involves pouring cooled coffee on your hair while in the shower. Leave it in for 10-15 minutes, then rinse.

4. Perfume testing aid

This is useful when testing different perfume scents. Sniff coffee grounds to clear your nose between each scent. This prevents the scents from merging together. It leads to a clearer, more defined scent.

5. Treat under eye puffiness

anything from allergies to lack of sleep may cause under eye puffiness. Apply chilled coffee grounds to your under eye area, let it sit for approximately 10 minutes, and rinse. Caffeine contains anti-inflammatory properties that reduces under eye swelling/puffiness.

Tips for Creating a Sugar Scrub

Hello, lovelies!

A sugar scrub is a product used to exfoliate the skin. Brands such as Lush Cosmetics offer various scrubs. If, like me, you live in an area without a LUSH store, creating a sugar scrub is one of the best options! Today I’ll share my top tips for creating a sugar scrub.

Avoid getting water in the sugar scrub

This will melt the sugar, and cause the scrub to become runny. If any water does get into the scrub, you can pour out the excess water and leave the lid off to let the scrub air-dry.

Experiment with different scents and oils until you determine the best fit

The basics of a sugar scrub include oil and sugar. You can incorporate different oils and scents until you find a combination you like best. Different additions may include peppermint, avocado oil, and eucalyptus.
