I adore a new MAC lipstick. After recently placing a MAC order (stay tuned for a MAC haul!) I decided to write a post that will help you distinguish each lipstick finish offered by the brand!
Matte – This is MAC’s most long-wearing, opaque lipstick finish. There is no glitter or shine present in a matte lipstick. Typically, a matte lipstick does not feather with wear, but it can feel drying on the lips.
Retro Matte – A retromatte finish is very drying, and it can be difficult to apply to the lips. Retro matte applies fully opaque. This lipstick lasts for 4-6 hours when applied,
Amplified – This formula is opaque, but has a slightly translucent finish. Amplified lipsticks are creamy but have a short wear time.
Satin – Satin lipsticks are highly opaque. They are long-wearing, and offer a translucent finish. Satin finishes are non-drying.
Glaze – This finish is sheer. The colour of glaze lipsticks is not opaque, and offers a glossy finish.
Frost – Frost lipsticks contain sparkles, which gives the lipstick a pearlescent finish. This lipstick has buildable coverage.
Cremesheen – Cremesheen formulas are creamy, and semi-opaque. These lipsticks are moisturizing but they have a short wear-time.
I enjoyed a busy, productive summer. I worked, travelled and added new accessories to my wardrobe. To commemorate the season’s end, I decided to feature highlights of my summer!
My trip to Toronto was the highlight of my summer. I spent a glorious weekend exploring the city with Grant, and finally saw Ed Sheeran in concert. This weekend away from home gave me an opportunity to unwind and indulge in my self-care routine. The trip was exciting and relaxing. (Minus the subway exploration, of course!)
My summer job provided me opportunity to further my social work skills. I refined my social work skills while providing advocacy support to clients with disabilities. I completed this term of employment at Empower, a local disability resource centre here in St. John’s.
NEW FASHION ACCESSORIES
While I did not buy many new clothing pieces, I expanded my handbag collection. I added two new Kate Spade handbags into my accessory rotation. I received the first handbag as an early birthday present from my parents. This handbag is a gorgeous salmon-colored Cedar Street Harmony tote. It is lightweight and practical. To my complete surprise, I received another Kate Spade handbag as a birthday present. This second handbag is a Penn Place Keisha black-and-white patterned cross-body. I favour cross-body handbags while I am running errands or need a lighter handbag to use for a certain day. It’s an ideal accessory for the summertime.
I celebrated two milestones in August: my 22nd birthday and my 6-month anniversary with Grant. I also enjoyed birthdays and anniversaries of family and friends. My summer involved a lot of balloons and cake.
I’ve been busy with my summer job winding down, blogging, and looking ahead to a new year of university. I’m slowly incorporating fall pieces into my wardrobe. While I type this, I’m also asking my boyfriend to collect a cardigan from my closet because I’m chilled again. Today I share insight into preparing your fall wardrobe, and my go-to advice!
RE-PURPOSE SUMMER CLOTHING TO GET MORE WEAR OUT OF THEM
I wear certain clothing all year-round, I simply adapt the item for the specific season. I pair sundresses with leggings and a cardigan. Some items are not suitable for the fall season, but I find creative ways to re-purpose most items:
- I wear tank tops throughout the year, layering with blouses
- I pair my sundresses with a cardigan or leggings
- My favourite pair of Sketchers Go-Walk shoes are paired with tights or socks
INTRODUCE DARKER COLOURS
My makeup and clothing both transition into fall. I incorporate darker colours into my clothing and makeup. I favour deep red lipstick to pair with blacks, greys, and burgundy. My clothing follows this pattern. I wear wine-colored cardigans, black leggings, and my dark boots throughout the season.
ADAPT MY FOOTWEAR
I wear my caramel-colored riding boots most of the season. These boots are closed-toe, warm, and waterproof. When I do wear my Sketchers, I pair them with tights or socks to keep my feet warm.
How do you transition your wardrobe into the fall?
I recieved a new Kate Spade handbag as a birthday present. This handbag is a Cedar Street Harmony, which is medium-sized. Since buying my first Kate Spade accessory last year, the brand instantly became a favourite of mine. Other handbags I own are small. I was delighted to find a handbag with enough room for daily use in the office and when travelling.
The handbag came in Kate Spade’s signature package. This package is a purple and white bag with a purple spade and the words “Kate Spade” embossed into it. Kate Spade packaging is lightweight.
The handbag itself is composed of a beautiful cross-hatched Saffino leather. This is a high-quality leather that is waterproof. It is salmon-coloured. The handbag has a dual strap. The Kate Spade New York logo is embossed into a gold plate on the handbag. The inside of the handbag features the brand’s custom woven spade dot lining. I adore the zippered inside lining plus two inside pockets. It provides a convenient place to store my cellphone and lipstick.
I typically shy away from tote bags. They are often heavy and cumbersome, but this one is not. I immediately noticed how lightweight this handbag is. It is also durable.
A Kate Spade Cedar Street Harmony handbag typically retails for $228. It is currently on-sale for $136 from Kate Spade’s official website. It is available as a tote or a cross-body handbag.
Cleaning out your closet can be difficult. I cleaned out mine last week, and I’ll admit, it’s difficult to let go of that sparkly seath dress you wore once but hang onto just in case. Every few months, it’s a good idea to assess the items in your closet. As you scrutinize each item, ask yourself the following questions:
- Will I wear this again?
- Is it still in style?
- Does it fit?
- Have I worn it in the last 6-12 months?
- How do I feel when I wear this?
- Would I buy this is I were shopping right now?
If the anwser to any of these questions is no, then its time to say goodbye to those items.
Are you unsure of how to let go of these items? You have a few options.
Option #1 – Donate
Most cities have specific organizations that accept gently used clothes. Within Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association offers dropbox locations to leave clothing you wish to donate.
Option #2 – Sell
Apps and websites make it easier than ever to sell clothes you no longer wear. Websites such as Tradsey let you sell clothing by uploading a photo and information about the item. Tradsey then computes the price the item will sell for on the website.
Option #3 – Swap
Host a clothing swap with friends and family. This is a fun way of finding new items and saying goodbye to old ones.
A question for my fellow petite girls: Do you ever find that clothes just don’t fit your frame ‘right’? If you’re like me, you’ll know that finding clothes to fit a small frame isn’t a simple task. My 4’10 frame doesn’t take long sleeves, skirts, or dresses well. From experiencing years of ill-fitting clothes, I’ve put together a few tips to make shopping a better task.
TIP #1: Combine high and low pieces
High-waisted items elongate the body. Combining a high-waist skirt and low v-neck top adds great dimension to an outfit. This combination accentuates your features. I have a dainty bone structure. I like to pair a high-waisted skirt and top with a deep neck to accentuate my collarbones.
TIP #2: Know where to shop
Bookmark your favourite brands that design clothing specifically for smaller silhouettes. Stores with a Petite section include: H & M, Laura Canada, and TJ Maxx. These stores offer a wide variety of basics and trendier items. It’s always a good idea to try on items before you buy to determine the fit.
TIP #3: Avoid loose fitting clothes
Tops or dresses with floated arms are gorgeous pieces. Items with excess fabric around the arms or waist will consume your look. If you favour a looser fit, define your waist with a small belt or piece of satin.
TIP #4: Elongate your legs
Pair tights with the same colour shoes to elongate your legs. (My favourite combination is pairing a black tight or legging with black shoes). A colour-combination gives the illusion of a longer legs.
With fall almost behind us, I thought I’d share products I’ve loved this season.
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette
This palette contains a combination of warm shadows to transition your makeup into fall. The combination of reds/pinks, oranges, and browns are a perfect addition to any outfit. The shadows allow you to add a touch of colour to your makeup. These shadows remind me of the shades captured in crisp leaves.
- Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita
Lolita matches well with any scarf, or boot colour. The chestnut tone of the lipstick is great for the fall season. The lipstick lasts through crisp, chilly days. Chestnut and brown lipsticks are popular options for Fall 2016.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Cooler weather often causes my skin to begin drying out. First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream contains skin-soothing ingredients. These ingredients help replenish moisture lost in the cool air. I like that this formula is non-greasy, and blends into my skin without leaving residue. It’s been one of my skin saviours this season!
I live in my leather boots during the fall. The chestnut colour allows me to accessorize the boots with casual or dressy outfits. With the changing weather, these boots are perfect protectants against rain, cold, and dampness.
Infinity scarves are a staple in my fall collection. I wear them as both a fashion accessory, and as a method of warmth. The knit material of my scarves accessorize well with cardigans, dresses, and coats. I often coordinate my lipstick colour with my scarf colour.
Knit cardigans are a go-to accessory during the fall. These cardigans come in chic and cozy designs, and pair well with a variety of footwear and pants. The knit material in this cardigan keeps me cozy during cool weather.
Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing some of my favourite summer pieces in my wardrobe.
Nicole Miller casual dress:
I purchased this dress from a T.J. Maxx store in Orlando. After wearing the dress twice, I knew it would become a staple in my summer wardrobe. The v-neck design and cotton material make the dress light. This is a comfortable dress, and it is perfect for warm, breezy summer days. This dress falls below the knee, but is not long enough to be a maxi dress, allowing for movement when worn. I like to wear it as is, or dress it up with a bold lip and jewellery!
Forever 21 top:
This pink cropped top is a versatile piece of clothing I recently added to my wardrobe. The fabric is light. The top falls just below the belly-button. It can be worn with shorts, skirts, leggings, or even jeans! (I, personally, prefer it with a pair of leggings or a skirt). This top is available for under $15 from Forever 21’s official website.
Forever 21 necklace:
This necklace is gorgeous! The gold necklace with its leaf pattern adds sparkle to any top or dress, and can be easily worn with either high-or-low necked tops! It retails for less than $13 on Forever 21’s website.
After endless searching, I finally found a bikini that not only fit my tiny frame, but also had adequate padding. This bikini delivered on both of those aspects, and it has a pretty print. (Score!) The biggest surprise about this bikini was that I purchased it from Wal-Mart! The fabric is durable – ideal for hot summer days. I purchased this bikini while in Florida for $8 per piece.
