3 Tips to Help You Maintain Healthy Hair

Hello, lovelies!

Maintaining healthy, shiny hair can seem like the ultimate challenge. I often find myself wondering: How well am I cleansing? Are my heated styling tools too harsh? Here are tips I use weekly to keep my tresses healthy and strong.

Don’t over-wash your hair

Unless your hair is very oily, it is best to wash it every other day. Washing hair daily causes dryness and breakage. Over-washing hair strips strands of their natural oils. If you want hair to feel squeaky-clean every day, try using a dry shampoo in-between each wash.

Take care when brushing

Using a wide-tooth comb when brushing wet hair will prevent breakage. Your hairbrush should contain softer bristles to keep strands soft and even. It is a good idea to brush through hair every morning and night to remove dirt, dust, and dryness.

Condition, condition, condition

Condition hair regularly to maintain softness. I condition daily. A moisturizing conditioner strengthens hair and prevents dryness. If your hair feels limp or oily from conditioning, reduce your conditioning regime and only apply conditioner to the ends of hair.

3 Creative Ways to Use Dry Shampoo

Hello, lovelies!

Dry shampoo is a staple in my morning routine when there just isn’t enough time to wash my hair. Along with eliminating excess oil in your roots, dry shampoo can be useful for many aspects of your beauty routine!

Add faux highlights to your hair

Dry shampoo is available in a range of colours. While coloured dry shampoo is meant to blend into your hair, a few sprays can give the appearance of highlights in your locks.

Secure bobby pins

Bobby pins are often slippery and don’t stay in place. Spritz each bobby pin with dry shampoo before placing it in your hair for a secure hold.

Boost hair’s volume

Dry shampoo doesn’t just have to be saved for oily strands. Flip your hair upside down, add dry shampoo to your roots then concentrate it into the rest of your hair for extra volume.

Sweet as Honey: 3 Ways to Use the Ingredient in Your Beauty Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Honey is often used as a sweetener. It is a delicious, sweet addition to recipes. It also has medicinal purposes. Honey is full of healthy antioxidants that are potent when used on the skin, hair, or nails. Today I share a few of the ways to add honey to your beauty routine.

1. Use it as an exfoliator

Honey contains antioxidants, enzymes and other nutrients that purify and nourish. The moisture in honey hydrates the skin. Create a gentle exfoliator by mixing one tablespoon honey with one tablespoon baking soda. Gently rub the mixture into your skin then rinse with water.

2. Use it to treat acne

Honey contains both antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. These ingredients help fight acne-causing bacteria. Honey also contains anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness in the skin. Apply a dab of raw honey to any blemishes and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with water.

3. Use it as a hair conditioner

Raw honey is a great ingredient to add shine and lustre to the hair. The nutrients and enzymes won’t weigh the hair down. Add coconut oil into the mix to condition the hair. Mix one tablespoon raw honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply the mixture to the bottom of hair strands and work your way up. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes and rinse.

10 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil for Hair, Skin, Nails and More

Hello, lovelies!

Natural oils and ointments are useful for beauty. Coconut oil is an edible (yes, edible!) oil extracted from the kernals of a coconut. This oil has a surprising number of beauty benefits.

1. As a deep conditioner

Many hair conditioners contain coconut oil. This ingredient prevents protein loss and it penetrates hair better than other oils. If your conditioner does not contain coconut oil, apply the liquid to your hair, comb it through, and twist hair into a bun. Place a soft towel over your head. Rinse as usual in the morning.

2. As a lip balm

Coconut is a perfect lip balm, as it is semi-solid at room temperature. To create a lip balm with it, pack it into a miniature jar and smooth over lips.

3. As a body scrub

Mix half a cup of coconut oil with a handful of coarse salt (or sugar!) This creates an exfoliator. The oil gives the scrub a moisturizing effect.

4. As deodorant

To create a DIY deodorant, mix coconut oil with arrowroot powder, cornstarch, baking soda and a scented oil.

5. As a treatment for dry ends

Apply a pinch of oil to the ends of your hair. This replenishes moisture to dry, damaged ends.

6. As a healer for the skin

Coconut oil contains beneficial fats, which helps skin heal faster after a burn or injury.

7. As eye makeup remover

Use the oil on its own to create a simple, effective makeup remover. Dab a small amount on a cotton pad and wipe on skin until clean. Rinse the skin after applying.

8. As a cutical softener

Apply to cuticles twice a day to soften dry or chapped skin.

9. As razor burn protection

Apply to the skin before shaving to prevent irritation.

10. As a skin moisturizer

Coconut oil contains a unique fat composition. Combined with its natural antioxidant properties, the oil moisturizes and prevents skin irritation.

Have you used coconut oil as a beauty item before?

Beauty Hacks: 5 Other Uses for Coffee (That Don’t Involve Drinking a Cup of It!)

Hello, lovelies!

As it turns out, coffee has multiple uses. Your daily cup of java is great for drinking, but coffee is also a beauty product. Today I share five other uses for your favourite blend. You can try these tips while drinking a cup, but it’s not required.

1. Exfoliation

The grainy texture of coffee grinds make them a great exfoliator. There are coffee scrubs that you can buy. Simple ingredients in your kitchen pantry make an exfoliator. Combine a small bowl of coffee grinds with water or oil to form a paste. Rub the mixture into your skin as you normally would an exfoliator, then rinse.

2. Skin bronzer

The natural colour of coffee makes it a convenient skin bronzer. You can create your own bronzer lotion by combining coffee grounds and olive oil. Measure two parts olive oil into one part coffee grounds. If you wish to deepen the colour, add another part coffee.

3. Hair mask

A hair mask adds shine and lustre to your locks. This trick involves pouring cooled coffee on your hair while in the shower. Leave it in for 10-15 minutes, then rinse.

4. Perfume testing aid

This is useful when testing different perfume scents. Sniff coffee grounds to clear your nose between each scent. This prevents the scents from merging together. It leads to a clearer, more defined scent.

5. Treat under eye puffiness

anything from allergies to lack of sleep may cause under eye puffiness. Apply chilled coffee grounds to your under eye area, let it sit for approximately 10 minutes, and rinse. Caffeine contains anti-inflammatory properties that reduces under eye swelling/puffiness.
