I Tracked My Sleep for a Week Using FitBit… Here’s What I Learned

Hello, lovelies!

love my FitBit. This wearable fitness tracker became my favourite accessory within a few days of buying it. It has various features for tracking sleep, nutrition, and exercise. The feature I am most interested is the Auto Sleep Tracking. I decided to intricately track my sleep for one week to answer this question: Just how much sleep am I getting per week?

The Fundamentals

I set my tracker to record my sleep. It automatically detects when I fall asleep and when I wake. This function is surprisingly accurate. The tracker records your sleep data and sends it to the FitBit App on your phone using Bluetooth technology. The graph created displays your Sleep Pattern – including time spent asleep, the time you went to sleep + woke up, and the number of times you were awake/restless.

My Sleep Patterns

Below is the graph FitBit generated of my sleep patterns from the past week.

I gained important insights from tracking my sleep. I sleep for shorter periods of time throughout the week, but I catch-up on this on the weekend. My lifestyle patterns affect the length of time I sleep and the time it takes to fall asleep:

  • Any alcohol I drink before bed impacts my sleep quality. My total hours of time sleep decreases if I drink a glass of wine in the evening. Just one glass causes restlessness throughout the night. I sleep less, and feel fatigued the next morning.
  • I sleep for longer periods on weekends. I catch-up on my sleep on Saturday and Sunday. I sleep longer into the morning to reset my sleep schedule. Without an alarm clock to wake in the morning, I sleep for a longer period of time.
  • My sleep is restless when there are interruptions at night. My tracker detects higher periods of ‘restless sleep’ on nights I sleep with a television left on, or am woken by my beloved pet. According to FitBit, I sleep best on nights when my room is quiet and dark.

What is your favourite feature to use if you have a FitBit? Do you track your sleep at night using the device?

Wine 101: A Guide to Choosing a Type of Wine

Hello, lovelies!

Inspiration for this post came while I sipped on a glass of my favourite white wine. Have you ever wondered what different types of wine are out there? Check out this guide to 6 types of wine!

1. Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine is derieved from full-bodied red grapes. It is flavored with bold tannins. (Describe). Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with flavorful meats (e.g. Lamb, smoked meats) and firm cheeses (e.g. Aged cheddar)

2. Shiraz

A full-bodied wine with intense fruit flavors. Shiraz often has a meaty quality. It pairs with beef, lamb, and firm cheeses.

3. Zinfandel

White Zinfandel is my personal favourite. Flavor notes are aromatic, exotic fruits (e.g. Strawberry, lemon)

4. Pinot Noir

A light-bodied red wine with high acidity. It is dry wine with tasting notes of red fruits. It pairs with chicken, pork, and cream sauces.

5. Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a dry, full-bodied white wine. Two subtypes of chardonnay:

  • Unoaked: Unoaked chardonnay has a lighter flavor profile. Ir is zesty with apple and citrus notes.
  • Oaked: An oaked chardonnay will contain spicier notes.

Chardonnay pairs with seafood, chicken, pork and cream sauces.

6. Reisling

Reisling is a white wine that is floral. It contains notes of cirtus and stone fruit (e.g. Peach). Reisling is aromatic with variable sweetness. Pairings include chicken, turkey, fondue, and Thai cuisine.

Welcome to a New Season: How I Transition My Closet from Summer to Fall

Hello, lovelies!

I’ve been busy with my summer job winding down, blogging, and looking ahead to a new year of university. I’m slowly incorporating fall pieces into my wardrobe. While I type this, I’m also asking my boyfriend to collect a cardigan from my closet because I’m chilled again. Today I share insight into preparing your fall wardrobe, and my go-to advice!

RE-PURPOSE SUMMER CLOTHING TO GET MORE WEAR OUT OF THEM

I wear certain clothing all year-round, I simply adapt the item for the specific season. I pair sundresses with leggings and a cardigan. Some items are not suitable for the fall season, but I find creative ways to re-purpose most items:

  • I wear tank tops throughout the year, layering with blouses
  • I pair my sundresses with a cardigan or leggings
  • My favourite pair of Sketchers Go-Walk shoes are paired with tights or socks

INTRODUCE DARKER COLOURS

My makeup and clothing both transition into fall. I incorporate darker colours into my clothing and makeup. I favour deep red lipstick to pair with blacks, greys, and burgundy. My clothing follows this pattern. I wear wine-colored cardigans, black leggings, and my dark boots throughout the season.

ADAPT MY FOOTWEAR

I wear my caramel-colored riding boots most of the season. These boots are closed-toe, warm, and waterproof. When I do wear my Sketchers, I pair them with tights or socks to keep my feet warm.

How do you transition your wardrobe into the fall?

Inside Erin Angela’s 5-Minute Makeup and Skin Care Routine for Any Busy Morning

Hello, lovelies!

On mornings when I am rushed, I simplify my makeup and skincare routine. This routine required modifications and trimming to include basic products. It took considerable time to reduce my daily products to the bare essentials. This routine saves me at least 10 minutes in the morning! Today I share my five-minute makeup and skincare routine:

SKINCARE

If I am pressed for time, I skip a detailed facial cleansing. I wash my face with Dove soap. The moisturizing ingredients leave my skin soft and refreshed. I rinse my face, press it into a warm towel to seal my pores, and follow with moisturizer.

MAKEUP

Simplifying this step took a lot of effort. I often wear a plethora of products each day. If I have only five minutes to spare, I use the products listed below:

  • Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
  • BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
  • Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara
  • The first red lipstick I place my hand on (This results in either my: Kat Von D, Sephora Collection, Bite Beauty, or Urban Decay lipstick)

Because I do not wear foundation when pressed for time, I forgo setting powder.

I highlight underneath my eyes using concealer. I use it to spot-treat any blemishes or imperfections. I apply BECCA’s Skin Perfector to my cheekbones and highlight my specific areas of my skin. When I forgo eyeshadow, Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner helps me achieve a full-makeup eye look. I finish my eyes with two coats of mascara. I tie my look together with a red lipstick.

Do you have a 5-minute makeup routine? If so, what does it look like?
