A Taste of Home: 3 Key Destinations for Foodies in St. John’s

Hello, lovelies!

Today I thought I’d switch up my blog post and feature some local favourites. I rarely mention my hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Newfoundland is a small Canadian province in the middle of the Atlantic. (which happens to be a small Canadian province in the middle of the Atlantic). The warm, sunny weather this weekend inspired me. Today I share my favourite destinations for foodies living in, and visiting, St. John’s.

Newfoundland Chocolate Company

I adore chocolate. The Newfoundland Chocolate Company, founded in 2009, combines delicious chocolate with local flavours. Chocolates are filled with wildberries, seasalt caramel, almonds, and other ingredients. The fresh, handmade chocolates is my chocolate-loving dream. The company crafts a delicious Gelato using many of the same flavours found in their single chocolates. Gelato flavours include vanilla bean, sea salt caramel, and partridgeberry. You’ll find the Newfoundland Chocolate Company in two prime downtown locations – Duckworth Street and Signal Hill.

Bagel Cafe

I frequent Bagel Cafe. The cozy atmosphere offers a slate for hearty breakfast options. I favor the crisp, fluffy Belgain waffles loaded with summer berries. The cafe is located in the heart of the downtown core. It is sandwiched between colourful buildings and ocean views.

Starbucks

Though Starbucks is not local to St. John’s, I placed it on my list. Most of the coffee I drink is bought from one of the Starbucks locations in the city. I enjoy the bright, flavourful blends of the company’s iced coffee, iced tea, and other specialty beverages.

What part of the world are you from? What is your favourite local food destination? Let me know in the comments below!

3 Easy, Effective Tips for Better Time Management (Even When You Think It’s Impossible!)

Hello, lovelies!

We all have days where we have a growing list of tasks – and it seems like there isn’t enough hours in the day to complete them. How we manage our time to complete those tasks is time management. I use these tips daily, but they are especially useful to me during a new semester.

1. Complete the most important tasks first

This is prioritizing. Prioritizing is the golden rule of time management. Determine which tasks are the most crucial, and complete those first. Once you complete the essential tasks, you can move on to those which are not as crucial.

2. Start early

It’s tempting to hit the SNOOZE button. I’m writing this post while watching the sun peek into my bedroom window. I decided to get an early start and complete one task before my day fully begins. For example, I wake up  at 6:30 on mornings I publish blog posts. You can surprise yourself at how much youdoh during the rest of the day!
3. Use a calendar

Using a calendar is important to time management. If carrying a paper calendar or agenda is not your style, a range of online software exists to create one! A calendar can simply list each day of the week. Most agendas, in comparison, are useful for planning hourly tasks.

In Celebration of National Rose Day… The 3 Brands of Rose Wine I Adore Drinking Right Now

Hello, lovelies!

Saturday June 10 was National Rose Day. Anyone who knows me will know that I am an avid wine drinker. This will be a short and sweet blog post, as I’ve been stuck in bed with a cold since Friday. To commemorate National Rose Day, I’m sharing my favourite types of rose. *clink!*

Barefoot Bubbly

Barefoot Bubbly wine is technically a white wine, but the wine holds a bright pink hue. Sparkling wines are crisp. The brand’s White Zinfandel wine is my go-to. I enjoy light, refreshening wine flavours. This bottle contains notes of strawberry and peach. The addition of a bubbly texture gives the wine a crisp, delightful taste. I choose this wine most often due to its light taste (and the bubbles, of course!)

Yellowtail

Yellowtail Wine hails from Australia. This wine is prominent during my family’s holiday celebrations, especially Christmas and Easter. Pink Bubbles (I love that name!) is another sparkling wine, but it contains more carbonation. The flavour of this wine is bright. This Yellowtail carries strawberry tasting notes with hints of lemon.

Jacob’s Creek Moscato Rose

This type of wine is a delicious mix between Rose and Moscato.  Jacob’s Creek Moscato Rose  is a true summer beverage – tasting notes include fresh summer berries. This wine is created “frizzante” style, meaning it is gently sparkling.

What is your favourite type of wine?

Behind the Blogger: 5 Fun Facts About Erin Angela That You May Not Know (Kittens and Wine Included!)

Hello, lovelies!

For those of you who are new to my blog, welcome! Today I thought it would be fun to write a post featuring fun facts about me. I wrote a similar post when I began my blog. A post featuring 10 fun facts is an entertaining way to introduce myself to you. Here are 10 fun facts about me:

1. Wine and coffee are my two favourite beverages

I have not found a way to combine them, though. If anyone ever has an idea for wine-flavoured coffee, I’m all ears! I drink at least one coffee per day. I mainly drink Starbucks coffee, but I have discovered flavours from local coffee shops I enjoy. I own an expanding collection of cute coffee mugs. I enjoy a good glass of wine, especially white wine + rose wine. Wine is the main alcohol type I drink.

2. I have one year of studies left before becoming a social worker

Social work is my dream job. I enjoy helping others, and my own life experiences  inspired me to pursue this career path. I’ve wanted to study social work since the age of 13.

3. They say good things come in small packages

I stand at 4’10” tall. I like to make up for my lack of height with personality and determination. I’m optimistic, cheery, and persistent. I always hear, “good things come in small packages” and like to think that is true about myself.

4. I own two pets – a bright-orange cat and a German Shepherd Husky who is bigger than me

My cat, Cody, has been a part of the family for 10 years. The dog, Bear, is a recent addition. Bear is approximately 8 months old and he weighs more than I do. I tried to photograph them together, but that is not an easy thing to accomplish.

5. Lipstick is my top beauty essential

My purse contains at least two tubes of lipstick at all times. I wear lipstick every day. The shades in my collection range from a peachy-nude to purple. I wear red most often, but rotate the shades I wear based on the season. I reach for paler shades during the summer, and richer colours in the winter.

Erin Angela’s Daily Essentials: The Top 4 Items You’ll Find on My Desk Each Day

Hello, lovelies!

My desktop is not always the most organized. During the semester it is piled with textbooks, notes, and reminder Post-Its. There are specific items I use throughout the year – my desk essentials.

LAPTOP

My laptop is a staple object on my desk. I use it throughout the day to edit posts, respond to e-mails and complete research for new posts. My laptop usage increases when a semester is in session. I bought my MacBook Air when I began university.

CALENDAR + PLANNER

I keep both a calendar pad and planner on my desktop. Both pieces of stationary track important dates, assignment deadlines and reminders. As my planner is portable, I take it with me when out of the house.

BLOGGING NOTEBOOK

A teal blue clasped notebook holds all my blog post ideas. I track each date and post topic. I found this notebook at my local Chapters-Indigo. While this notebook sits next to my laptop most of the time, it is small and portable for travelling.

SNACKS/WATER/COFFEE

I stay hydrated with a combination of coffee and water. Both a water bottle and coffee cup remain on my desk while I work. I drink Keurig pods for a quick caffeine boost.

6 Questions You Should Ask Yourself When Cleaning Out Your Closet

Hello, lovelies!

Cleaning out your closet can be difficult. I cleaned out mine last week, and I’ll admit, it’s difficult to let go of that sparkly seath dress you wore once but hang onto just in case. Every few months, it’s a good idea to assess the items in your closet. As you scrutinize each item, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Will I wear this again?
  2. Is it still in style?
  3. Does it fit?
  4. Have I worn it in the last 6-12 months?
  5. How do I feel when I wear this?
  6. Would I buy this is I were shopping right now?

If the anwser to any of these questions is no, then its time to say goodbye to those items.

Are you unsure of how to let go of these items? You have a few options.

Option #1 – Donate

Most cities have specific organizations that accept gently used clothes. Within Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association offers dropbox locations to leave clothing you wish to donate.

Option #2 – Sell

Apps and websites make it easier than ever to sell clothes you no longer wear. Websites such as Tradsey let you sell clothing by uploading a photo and information about the item. Tradsey then computes the price the item will sell for on the website.

Option #3 – Swap

Host a clothing swap with friends and family. This is a fun way of finding new items and saying goodbye to old ones.
