3 Tips to Keep Your Skin Soft in Winter and Eliminate Dryness

Hello, lovelies!

Achieving soft, smooth skin in the winter is easier than you may think. Temperature fluctuations and warm, indoor air are often the culprits of dry, dehydrated skin. Here are my top tips to eliminate dry skin!

Choose your cleansers carefully

The ingredients in your daily cleansers can contribute to dry skin. Avoid soap-based cleansers and soaps in favour of creamy cleansers. Anything that has alcohol listed as an ingredient is drying.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

This tip comes from advice that my grandmother always drilled into my brain – moisturizing is the key to youthful skin. Apply moisturizer as soon as possible after showering to lock-in moisture. Moisturizer often works well when your skin is still slightly damp.

Eat well for healthy skin

Never underestimate the power of hydrating foods. Staying hydrated during the day will benefit your skin. Eat foods with high water contents for hydrated, radiant skin.

REVIEW: Versace Dylan Blue Perfume

Hello, lovelies!

I recently received a sample of the Dylan Blue Perfume by Versace. I have tested other perfumes by the brand and loved them, so I was excited to compare this one! This perfume has a delightful combination of fruity and floral notes.

The Packaging

The packaging is eye-catching and elegant. The perfume comes in a rounded glass bottle with intricate, raised golden decals. I love that the bottle has a gorgeous deep blue colour. It feels luxurious and beautiful.

The Fragrance

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this fragrance! The blackcurrent sorbet scent is punctuated with tart notes of Granny Smith apple. As the perfume dries down, I detect floral and musky notes. The scent is playful yet sophisticated.

The Wear

This fragrance is long-lasting but not overpowering. I apply it in the morning and the scent does not fade for 4-6 hours!

If you’re interested in trying a perfume that is fruity and floral, yet has a musky undertone, I’d recommend Versace’s Dylan Blue! The perfume is feminine yet has a sensual element. The fragrance retails for $106 at Sephora.

3 Mistakes That Are Preventing Your Blog From Growing

Hello, lovelies!

Blogging is not always easy. If you’ve never blogged before, it’s quick to assume that it’s a no-brainer job. I remember when I first began my blog, I was daunted and had no idea where to start. Once you write your first few posts the act of blogging will become easier. It’s easy to make mistakes that will stunt your blog’s growth, and here are three common ones!

You don’t post consistently

Consistency is key when it comes to blogging. Writing content that is consistent and fresh will encourage your readers to return. I publish new content three times per week, and this routine works well for my blog. There’s no rule about how often you have to post, but bear in mind that posting content regularly is key.

Poor blog design or difficult navigation

First impressions count. A blog theme that is easy to navigate and eye-catching will encourage readers to come back. When you first design your blog, it is important to keep in mind that it can be changed and built-up over time. I started with a bare, basic theme which I gradually modified and enhanced.

Neglecting your own voice

This was a big thing I learned throughout my blogging journey! Striving to create perfect content and writing can prevent your own voice from shining through. Once I learned to stop striving for perfection, it became easier for my own tone and writing style to emerge.

REVIEW: NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil

Hello, lovelies!

I adore testing lip products. I recently bought a full-sized Velvet Matte Lip Pencil from NARS and instantly added into my lipstick rotation! The creamy lip pencil is pleasantly creamy, pigmented and bright.

The Packaging

This pencil comes in a slender, cylindrical tube that is matte black and features the NARS logo. The end of the pencil is reminiscent of the shade contained within. It is lightweight and travel-friendly.

The Formula

My favourite aspect of the pencil is how creamy and pigmented it is. It feels feather-light when applied to the lips. The texture is thin but smooth. Most shades have an opaque finish that does not dry completely matte.

The Wear

This pencil lasts for 4-6 hours on the lips without fading. It stays bright and pigmented throughout the day, but does not last long after eating or drinking.

The Shades

I love the diverse shade range of these pencils! They are available in a range of 23 shades and feature creamy nudes and bright pops of colour. I own the shade ‘Mysterious Red’ – a bright crimson.

Nars Velvet Matte Pencil is a perfect lipstick that is lightweight, long-lasting and travel friendly! Each lipstick retails for $34 at Sephora.

3 Creative Ways to Use Dry Shampoo

Hello, lovelies!

Dry shampoo is a staple in my morning routine when there just isn’t enough time to wash my hair. Along with eliminating excess oil in your roots, dry shampoo can be useful for many aspects of your beauty routine!

Add faux highlights to your hair

Dry shampoo is available in a range of colours. While coloured dry shampoo is meant to blend into your hair, a few sprays can give the appearance of highlights in your locks.

Secure bobby pins

Bobby pins are often slippery and don’t stay in place. Spritz each bobby pin with dry shampoo before placing it in your hair for a secure hold.

Boost hair’s volume

Dry shampoo doesn’t just have to be saved for oily strands. Flip your hair upside down, add dry shampoo to your roots then concentrate it into the rest of your hair for extra volume.

3 Signs That It’s Time To Change Your Skincare Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Embracing change is hard. When it comes to your skincare routine, you may have certain steps or products that you rely on each day to achieve a radiant complexion. But, sometimes, it’s necessary to change your routine if your skin isn’t clearing, or you feel that the products you use just aren’t working. Here are three signs to look for if you think it’s time for a new skincare routine!

You’re not seeing results

Skincare should not be rooted in achieving perfection. There are many benefits of a skincare routine, including a clearer complexion, but your routine should not be focused on attaining completely flawless skin. Everyone’s version of improvement is different. If you’ve been applying the same products for longer than 12 weeks without seeing any changes in your skin, it may be time to consider changing the products you use, or how you apply them.

Your skin is suddenly breaking out

All of a sudden, it happens – new breakouts are appearing without any reason why. If you haven’t changed your routine and are suddenly experiencing new breakouts, it could be a result of ‘skin purging’ – a reactive process to a product or step in your routine.

Your skin is overly dry

Spontaneous dry patches on your skin could be a sign that a product you’re using contains the wrong ingredients for your skin type. Certain products may contain ingredients like salicylic acid, fragrances or benzoyl peroxide that increase dryness in the skin. If your skin begins to feel drier than a desert for an unknown reason, you may want to examine the ingredients in your beloved products.

3 Tips to Take Better Blog Photos in the Winter

Hello, lovelies!

Blogging in the winter is tough. Shorter days bring less daylight, and reduced hours to take bright, well-lit photos for a blog post. Today I’ve gathered my top tips for taking better blog photos in the winter. If you’re in the same boat, keep on reading!

Utilize the help of apps

There are many apps available to enhance the natural light in your photos. I often brighten dark photos with the help of apps like Lightroom.

Timing is key

Whenever possible, it is better to take photos in natural light. The sun is often at its highest point by midday, and this translates to the brightest light available for the day. With this in mind, pay attention to locations that have the brightest light to achieve the best photos.

Pay attention to the backgrounds

I love using bright, white backgrounds for product photography and flat lays. White backgrounds make objects appear brighter by reflecting light.
