3 Things I Do Every Morning For a Productive, Energized Day

Hello, lovelies!

The way you start your day has a significant impact on how the rest of it unfolds. I enjoy taking charge of my day by engaging in a morning routine that makes me feel both energized and relaxed. If I am intentional about my morning, the rest of my day usually unfolds smoother. Here are three things I do every morning for a productive, energized day!

Have the tools I need for the day organized and within reach

This applies to every aspect of my morning routine. For example, when my coffee cup is right next to my Keurig, or when my face cleanser is within reach on my bathroom vanity, I feel much more organized. I like to ensure that items I use every single morning are easy to find.

Drink coffee

I adore coffee, and would consider my Keurig as one of my best friends. Drinking coffee each day is a staple in my morning routine for two reasons. First, the caffeine gives me an energy boost to start the day. Second, drinking coffee has become a routine task for me each morning and I feel relaxed and ready to take on the day once this task is complete.

Get dressed and apply makeup

This one may seem obvious, but I feel more energized when I am completely ready for the day. Just making myself look productive after dressing and applying makeup instantly leads to feeling productive.

3 Things I Always Do in the Morning for a Productive Day

Hello, lovelies!

How you start each day is a predictor of how the rest of it will unfold. I implement specific activities into my morning to ensure that I maximize my productivity. Here are three activities that I suggest doing to maximize your productivity in the morning:

1. Write a to-do list

I often create a to-do list when I start my work day, or my weekend. Writing out a list of the items you must accomplish each day is a great method to stay organized. I like to keep this list on my desk, or another highly visible place.

2. Drink coffee

My family usually jokes that I take my coffee through an IV. I always start my morning with a cup of coffee, and it has become an anticipated part of my morning. Both the caffeine, and the routine, help ensure I’m completely ready for the day ahead.

3. Organize my workspace

Whether I’m blogging or working, I take a few minutes to organize my desk. Organizing my workspace each day helps clear my mind before I start my work. This trick is very helpful when I spend an evening blogging.

3 Simple Tips to Help You Stay Hydrated

Hello, lovelies!

It’s no secret that we should drink more water. As I write this post, I’m sipping on my second cup of coffee, though I’m consistently aware of the importance of staying hydrated. If you find it difficult to maintain your fluid intake throughout the day, hopefully these tips will help you!

Get creative with your water

Many people fail to drink enough water because plain water is boring. Getting creative with your water will make it more hydrating, and enticing to drink. My favourite ways to upgrade my water include adding lemon and other fruits to enhance the flavour.

Set a timer

Setting a timer to track your water consumption is a great way to attune to how much you’re actually drinking. One simple tip to time your water consumption is to set a timer for every hour on your phone. When the alarm rings, drink one glass of water. The important thing to remember is to keep a consistent flow of water going into your body to prevent dehydration.

Minimize your caffeine and alcohol intake

This can be tricky. Both alcoholic beverages and caffeine contribute to dehydration. To avoid becoming dehydrated, consume these beverages in moderation. If you drink a lot of coffee throughout the day, for example, drink one glass of water per cup to supplement your fluid intake.

4 Secrets to Becoming Body-Positive That Nobody Shares

Hello, lovelies!

Body positivity  is a wonderful thing, and becoming body positive is a journey that is achieved differently by every single person. I was recently inspired by ‘body positive’ posts on my Instagram feed to write a post about five little secrets to body positivity that may not be apparent, but are important to achieve a body-positive mindset.

1. Becoming body-positive does not happen overnight

Becoming body-positive is not always a quick, or easy, process. Learning to love the skin you’re in takes baby steps and you’ll repeat the process every day. You’ll have days where you’ll love your body; and other days you’ll revert to less-than-positive comments about your body. I’d like to think of myself as body positive, yet there are still days when my skin breaks out, or I’m bloated, and I think ‘Here we go again’. Body positivity is a continuum that changes daily, and that is okay.

2. It starts with changing your mindset

Often, the struggles you have with your body stems from your mind. Finding body positivity will help you connect with yourself and your true emotions. A positive mindset will lead to positive thoughts!

3. Ditching the scale is a powerful motivator

I haven’t looked at my scale in over a month. It is a lot easier to stay attuned to your body and how you feel when you aren’t hyperaware of the number glowing on your scale. This small change is a powerful motivator to focus on how your body and skin feels, as opposed to how much you know it weighs.

4. Remember that beauty is not ‘one-size-fits-all’

Bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Beauty is achieved differently by everyone, and your beauty (and body!) is unique to you. Instead of degrading yourself for not looking like an Instagram model, focus on what makes you beautiful and gain inspiration from those around you. Beauty, and bodies, are unique to everyone!

3 Interesting Lessons I’ve Learned in 3 Years of Blogging

Hello, lovelies!

As I approach my three-year blogging anniversary, I decided to reflect and write a post about the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

1. It’s okay to take time to reset

I’ve blogged consistently for the past year and a half. In that timeframe, I’ve taken a few breaks. One important lesson I learned from these breaks: It’s okay to step away from your blog, as needed! Instead of feeling down about not posting as usual, a break provided me time to reset and develop new ideas, content, and inspiration.

2. Developing a blogging schedule is a good motivator

Determining a schedule for my blog post topics has been a great way to stay motivated. I know exactly what to write on each day, and it has kept my ideas flowing.

3. Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers

Everyone has their own path to success. It is easy to get sucked into the competition surrounding blogging, but it’s important to remember that there is no formula to achieve success. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far in my blogging journey, and recognize that everyone achieves different levels of success. (Reaching 1, 000 subscribers has been my biggest accomplishment to date!)

What lessons have you learned since you started blogging?

How and Why I Motivated Myself to Begin a Fitness Routine

Hello, lovelies!

Finding motivation to get fit can be a struggle for people. I’m a walking injury, and typically don’t exercise for fear of injuring myself again. One of my resolutions this year was to become more active and fit. Today I share why and how I’ve rejuvenated my fitness routine/goals.

Why Did I Begin a Fitness Routine?

I’m petite (aka: 4’11”) and easily feel any weight that I gain. Upon noticing that I was gaining a few extra pounds, I decided it was time to start a fitness routine again. I lead a sedentary lifestyle and decided to incorporate more exercise, and better nutrition into my life.

How I’m Doing It

I struggle with sticking to a set of exercises or a mundane exercise routine. To re-motivate myself, I downloaded the Fitness Planner Pack from Blogilates. Blogilates is a website/Youtube channel developed by fitness instructor/entrepreneur Cassey Ho. Her workout videos, meal plans, and other resources are easy to follow, fun, and effective.

After I subscribed to Cassey’s newsletter, I received a monthly workout calendar (available here). The calendar lists videos from her Youtube channel that correspond to each day of the week. Each day is categorized and features 2-3 videos (e.g. Wednesday is categorized as ‘Crazy Core’, Thursday is categorized as ‘Total Body Blast.’). Along with these motivators, I’ll add three specific tools to compliment my fitness routine:

Fitbit

My Fitbit will be my integral fitness tool. The activity tracker monitors my sleep, daily steps/activity, and weight. I’ll use it daily to record these various statistics plus my weekly weigh-ins. My Fitbit will allow me to track my fitness with little effort.

Blogilates Monthly Calendar + Meal Plans

I printed a copy of Cassey’s April Monthly Calendar and selected exercise videos to complete each day for the remainder of the month. A visual calendar lets me put a red X through the workouts I’ve completed (I don’t know about you, but writing an X through items on a list is oddly satisfying!) In addition to each daily workout, I’ve decided to incorporate Cassey’s meal plan printable into my nutrition-tracking.

Weekly weigh-ins

Because my Fitbit calculates my weekly statistics each Sunday, I will be completing weight-checks on that day to track the data. I’ll have a visual record of my weight each week, and any changes that occur.

Back to Blogging: Why I Took a Break

Hello, lovelies!

Welcome back to my blog! I haven’t been very active online this year, and plan to return to my regular blogging schedule. Before I publish new product reviews and content, I’ll explain why I disappeared:

My Internship

I began my four-month long internship in January. This is the last semester of my social work program and I’ve devoted a lot of time to the internship. It involved a new schedule and activities that I had to become familiar with. Maintaining a regular blogging schedule was not easy!

Illness

2018 definitely came in with a bang. I ended up catching the flu more than once, which required time to recover from. I desperately wanted to continue blogging while I was ill, but resting was my top priority.

My daily schedule is regular, and I’ve devoted specific times to write new blog posts each week. I’m excited to welcome everyone back into my blogging space!

3 Quick Ways to De-Stress When You Don’t Have a Lot of Time

Hello, lovelies!

Stress is a normal part of everyday life. As much as we’d like to just drop everything and start a vacation, we usually just have to power through it and keep working. It is not easy to relive all the stressors in your life, so here are three quick ways to de-stress:

1. Find a short, relaxing exercise routine

A short exercise routine like stretching or a brief jog is ideal when you don’t have a lot of extra time. If you devote just 10-15 minutes to exercising each day (even if it just involves taking the stairs instead of an elevator) you accomplish three things: (1) You get your blood flowing, (2) You relax, and (3) You stretch any tight muscles.

2. Set a daily routine for yourself

Any joyful tasks that you enjoy doing on a daily basis have therapeutic benefits. For me, drinking my daily cup of coffee and applying makeup are calming activities. Maintaining a daily routine is an effective personal development practice. By engaging in a daily activity, you devote time to you.

3. Just breathe

Practicing deep breathing exercises can dramatically reduce stress and tension. Take a few slow, deep breaths each day to relieve stress. Mindfulness apps that include breathing techniques (my personal favorite is Calm – it features meditation and deep-breathing techniques for stress reduction.

What techniques do you use on a daily basis to de-stress?

3 Ideas To Implement Self-Care At the End of the Semester

Hello, lovelies!

As another semester draws to an end, I ensure to implement my self-care routine regularly to decrease stress. Today I share ideas that I implement to avoid burnout while preparing for end-of-term evaluations, exams, and my upcoming Christmas shopping!

Listen to yourself and your body/mind

If you want to take care of yourself during this time, it is essential to listen to what your body and mind are trying to tell you. Take a few minutes out of your day to understand what is going on with you. Are you tired? Are you stressed out? Are you eating regularly?  To maintain your health and wellbeing at the end of term, cue into the signals your body sends you.

Create a visual calendar

When I feel stressed and overwhelmed, I like to create a mini, visual calendar of tasks to accomplish during the week. This enables me to visualize what is left to finish and I can divide my To-Do list into smaller tasks.

Try new exercise

I recently implemented mindfulness and deep-breathing exercises into my daily routine. Exercise helps me to de-stress and relax any racing thoughts. The newest routine I’ve implemented is deep-breathing and guided meditation through an app called Calm. This app features meditation exercises, deep breathing, and ‘Bedtime Stories’ to help you relax at night.

What methods do you use to decrease end-of-semester stress?

How I Pamper Myself During an At-Home Spa Night

Hello, lovelies!

I blog about self-care and relaxation often. I’ve begun to view self-care through a lens that it involves activities beyond the bubble-bath, but I do enjoy spending time creating my own spa-like environment at home. My routine does not include a bubble bath, but I do focus on skincare. Today I share my own spa-night routine.

Unplug

The first step in my routine involves silencing my phone and other electronics. I like to ensure my environment is quiet, peaceful, and free from distractions. (Unless my cat decides to perch on the edge of the tub, of course!)

Focus on skin care

always apply a face mask after removing my makeup on Friday nights. I tend to minimize my skincare routine during the week, and my top priority is to rebalance my skin once the weekend arrives. I cycle each mask in my collection, but two masks in heavy rotation each week are GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment and Origins Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay.

Relax

While I wait for my mask to set, I indulge in a glass of wine. I select a wine that is light, crisp, and refreshing. This portion of my spa night routine relaxes me after a long week. I enjoy curling up in fluffy blankets to settle in for a night of movies or reading.

eSalon, a California-based hair colour company offering custom colour services and haircare products, provided a list of additional ideas to implement into your own relaxing spa night!
