3 Quick, Easy Ways to Grow Your Blog With Twitter

Hello, lovelies!

I frequently use Twitter to share links to my blog posts, but recently began to grow my blog with the platform. I shared my content but did not engage with my followers or fellow bloggers. Implementing a few simple strategies has not only grown my following but also increased my engagement on my blog.

Engage with your followers

If you’re using Twitter to promote your blog posts, it is important to engage with your followers (and potential readers). It only takes 5-10 minutes to scroll through your feed and like, retweet, or comment on your followers Tweets. This not only increases your engagement, but it also increases the visibility of your account and blog.

Create a call-to-action

I recently posted a call-to-action and asked my followers to link their blogs in one of my Tweets. This was beneficial for two reasons – (1) I was able to explore new blogs and content; and (2) Connecting with other bloggers grew both my Twitter account and my blog’s follower count.

Add hashtags to your Tweets

Adding hashtags to your tweet, or tagging a brand, will introduce your content to new readers who may not have found your blog otherwise. Exploring hashtags on Twitter also increases your visibility to brands you may want to work with.

Add images to your Tweets

Tweets with images receive twice the amount of engagement than those without. Your tweet will stand out more than text-only tweets, especially if it the size is Twitter-friendly.

3 Effective Ways to Promote Your Blog on Social Media

Hello, lovelies!

Social media is an effective tool to promote your blog, connect with other bloggers, and expand your readership. I regularly cross-promote my blog on my social media channels and it’s exponentially increased my blog traffic! Here are three effective strategies to promote your blog on social media:

Integrate your blog and social media accounts

Integrating your blog and social media accounts bridges the gap between each platform and your blog. People who are visiting your blog need an easy way to connect with your social media channels, and connecting both accounts ensures that the transition from blog to social media is seamless. I offer links to my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook on my blog banner, and link my blog on each of my social media accounts.

Join social communities

Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites are good platforms to promote your blog’s content and connect with other bloggers. If you are new to social media communities, start out by joining conversations with other bloggers before promoting your content.

Update your blog posts regularly

When you share your own content on social media, it’s helpful to repost older blog posts. This is helpful if you have new followers who have not read the posts previously, or if you are planning to revitalize previously-shared content.

Instagram for Bloggers: Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know About Instagram

Hello, lovelies!

Instagram is a powerful social media outlet to grow your blog, brand, or business. If you’ve been an Instagram user for a while, you know all-too-well how frustrating it can become to grow and market. However, a few simple modifications of your profile, photos, and engagement will make it easier to expand your reach and following. Today I’m sharing a guide on how to maximize the effectiveness of Instagram!

YOUR PROFILE BASICS

Your profile is the first thing that a prospective follower will encounter. Your profile should explain who you are, what your brand is, and what you bring to the community. When you build your profile, there are a few key components to consider:

  • Brand your account – Your account should have the same handle as the rest of your social media. This makes it easier for your audience to find you. If it is not optional, try keeping your handles as similar as possible. I rebranded all my social media handles as Erin Angela for consistency.
  • Profile picture – Snap a photo that shows off your personality, or specific characteristics you wish to highlight. I use a simple headshot featuring my favourite lipstick. I prefer to keep this photo focused and bright. If you have a brand/blog logo, or photo that showcases your personality, this also works wonders!
  • Your bio – With a limit of 150 characters and one clickable link, you should optimize it! Your bio is an opportunity to introduce who you are, what you do, and/or how you help others. Are you a beauty blogger? Are you a skincare specialist who shares DIY facial recipes? Your bio should reflect this.
  • Location – Integrating your location into your profile can help you connect with users or brands within a similar niche or who are in the same geographical location as you.

YOUR PHOTOS

Your photos should be bright, crisp, and attractive. I use my iPhone for all my photography, but your favourite type of camera works. Also, the lighting that you use can greatly enhance your photos.

YOUR HASHTAGS

Hashtags are helpful to increase your exposure, and to discover new brands or accounts. Hashtags categorize content and make it more discoverable. You should select a different set of hashtags for each post, and only select ones that are relevant to the photo. If you want to find the best hashtags for your account, find out which hashtags that your competitors are using.

3 Different Instagram Strategies You Need to Try

Hello, lovelies!

Picture this: You’re posting great photos, interacting with your followers, and using all the right hashtags but your engagement, likes, and followers dwindle with each post you share. Instagram can seem frustrating, but here are three unique strategies to improve your Instagram game.

Stop posting so often

This may seem counterintuitive, but posting less often will help your engagement increase. If you have a good post, it’s a good idea to leave it up for a 1-2 days to help it gain more interaction. I typically post once a day to let each post ‘breathe.’

Collaborate with others

One great way to expand your reach is to collaborate with other accounts. Collaborating with brands, whether through a sponsorship or partnership, will help expose your account to new followers. If your account is in a niche (for example, beauty or fashion) collaboration lets you connect with other accounts who share content like yours.

Engage with your followers

In the new Instagram algorithm, engagement is a key consideration when determining how many people the post is shown to. The more engagement a post has, the more people will see the post in their feed. My favourite way to engage with my followers is to like and comment on new photos.

How to Make Your Own Instagram Highlight Covers – A Step-by-Step Guide

Hello, lovelies!

Instagram regularly releases new features. One of those features is Instagram Highlights, which allows you to save your Instagram stories directly to your profile. This is a great feature for bloggers, entrepreneurs, or anyone who wants to save special memories to their profile. Today I share how I created my own covers for Instagram Highlights.

I create all my Instagram covers with Canva. The website offers multiple options to create your own graphics, and it’s free!

Step 1: After you open Canva, click create a design. Click on blog graphic, then click elements on the left-hand side of the menu. Next, click grids and select the first plain picture on the left.

Step 2: Click on backgrounds, and select your preferred background colour. You are able to customize any colour, or upload a picture if you want a graphic instead of a solid colour.

Step 3: Click text then select heading. Type the title of your cover into the text box.

Step 4: Click on elements again and select shapes. In this menu, you can select a shape for your Instagram cover (I use circles, but you can select squares, hearts, diamonds, etc). Search the icon you want to use then add it to your profile.

Step 5: Click download to download and save your image as a .JPEG

4 Secrets to Becoming Body-Positive That Nobody Shares

Hello, lovelies!

Body positivity  is a wonderful thing, and becoming body positive is a journey that is achieved differently by every single person. I was recently inspired by ‘body positive’ posts on my Instagram feed to write a post about five little secrets to body positivity that may not be apparent, but are important to achieve a body-positive mindset.

1. Becoming body-positive does not happen overnight

Becoming body-positive is not always a quick, or easy, process. Learning to love the skin you’re in takes baby steps and you’ll repeat the process every day. You’ll have days where you’ll love your body; and other days you’ll revert to less-than-positive comments about your body. I’d like to think of myself as body positive, yet there are still days when my skin breaks out, or I’m bloated, and I think ‘Here we go again’. Body positivity is a continuum that changes daily, and that is okay.

2. It starts with changing your mindset

Often, the struggles you have with your body stems from your mind. Finding body positivity will help you connect with yourself and your true emotions. A positive mindset will lead to positive thoughts!

3. Ditching the scale is a powerful motivator

I haven’t looked at my scale in over a month. It is a lot easier to stay attuned to your body and how you feel when you aren’t hyperaware of the number glowing on your scale. This small change is a powerful motivator to focus on how your body and skin feels, as opposed to how much you know it weighs.

4. Remember that beauty is not ‘one-size-fits-all’

Bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Beauty is achieved differently by everyone, and your beauty (and body!) is unique to you. Instead of degrading yourself for not looking like an Instagram model, focus on what makes you beautiful and gain inspiration from those around you. Beauty, and bodies, are unique to everyone!

Back to Blogging: Why I Took a Break

Hello, lovelies!

Welcome back to my blog! I haven’t been very active online this year, and plan to return to my regular blogging schedule. Before I publish new product reviews and content, I’ll explain why I disappeared:

My Internship

I began my four-month long internship in January. This is the last semester of my social work program and I’ve devoted a lot of time to the internship. It involved a new schedule and activities that I had to become familiar with. Maintaining a regular blogging schedule was not easy!

Illness

2018 definitely came in with a bang. I ended up catching the flu more than once, which required time to recover from. I desperately wanted to continue blogging while I was ill, but resting was my top priority.

My daily schedule is regular, and I’ve devoted specific times to write new blog posts each week. I’m excited to welcome everyone back into my blogging space!

If you have any ideas for future beauty/lifestyle content that you want me to write about, leave a comment below!

3 Ways to Grow Your Blog

Hello, lovelies!

Growing a new blog takes time and effort. Based on tips and my own experience, I’ve created a list of three ways that you can grow your blog in 2018.

1. Specify your niche

What topics are you passionate about? To determine your blog’s niche, you need to think about the topics and ideas that you enjoy writing about. Also, you need to think about who your readers are. After you’ve determined your target audience, begin to brainstorm how your writing will benefit them. This process will make it easier to determine specific topics and categories for your blog.

2. Invest in a responsive theme for your blog

Find a theme that suits your niche. I like to select themes that are elegant yet aesthetically-pleasing. Themes that fit your blog’s main topics will encourage readership. A great way to individualize your blog theme is to select different widgets, colors, and font options.

3. Find a guest blogger

At first glance, guest blogging may not seem attractive. Including guest blog posts on your website is beneficial for many reasons:

  • Widen your audience
  • Improve your blog’s SEO with backlinks to the guest’s website

3 Tips You Can Action Right Now to Use Instagram Stories as a Blogger or Business

Hello, lovelies!

Instagram introduced a Stories feature last August. This feature combines photo and video. Stories contain tools that are useful to help a blogger or business elevate their brand. I use the feature to capture a project I’m working on, share snapshots of my day, and to showcase my latest posts. Here are three tips to help you elevate your blog, brand, or business:

TIP #1 – Share behind the scenes of your latest project

Instagram’s Stories feature is perfect to share your current projects. you have a unique work process, this is a great way to attract potential readers/clients. Sharing your latest project creates interest in the end result.

TIP #2 – Use the “@” mentions feature

This feature is a great way to share content with your friends or favourite brands. When other users click on the “@” they can view the feed of the account you mention. I often use this feature when I am shopping in a certain store, or drinking Starbucks.

TIP #3 – Geotag your stories to increase exposure

If you are travelling to another city/country, geotag your stories. This feature increases your exposure to accounts in your niche. It is ideal for accounts that may not be already following you. Geotagging also lets your followers track your adventures!

Do you use Instagram Stories? What is your favourite aspect of the feature?
